It doesn’t matter how many times I read City of Heavenly Fire the end always makes me cry.

Simon is so good, so kind, and only there because he loves Clary and yet he is the one who suffers the most. In the end he doesn’t even know it but he does. He loses his best friend, and Luke who is almost a father to him as well as Clary, and his girlfriend, and his sire and all the other friends he made along the way. He can’t even mourn Jordan because he doesn’t know who Jordan is. It’s so so cruel, the choice they’re given. And Simon goes willingly. He doesn’t even get to hug Clary goodbye.
