Pas de deux - A Steggy AU
A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to @caiti-creative-corner who included coffee shop, the Nutcracker and Christmas in their likes! I had anticipated to have this done much earlier, but well, the plot bunnies conspired and this snowballed out of control. I hope you enjoy your Steggy Secret Santa gift!
In an effort to get this out without further delay, I’m posting without a full edit, so apologies for any typos.
Summary: Brooklyn is a fairytale small American town, especially near Christmastime. But this year, the traditional community production of the Nutcracker is jeopardized as the production seems cursed, with dancers falling ill or injured left and right. Hometown sweetheart and ballet dancer Steve Rogers gets roped into filling in, where he meets fellow college student Peggy Carter. Sparks and chemistry fly not only on the stage, especially as it seems the whole town is conspiring to throw them together.
It all starts when Mrs. Edith Anne Phillips, or Madame Edith as she’s known as to her students, beloved dance teacher, goes in for a routine exam only to receive bad news. As such, the Phillips spend Thanksgiving in the hospital. News quickly spread that Madame Edith was unlikely to resume her normal schedule at Tip & Tap Dance Academy for the foreseeable future. And so the town’s annual community production of The Nutcracker hung in the balance, Mrs. Phillips seeing no option but to cancel while she focused on her health.
For the idyllic small town of Brooklyn, where the winter wonderland charm regularly ushers in a whole slew of big city tourists, the idea of not having the yearly tradition of the ballet is unthinkable.
And so for someone like Steve Rogers, born and raised in Brooklyn, and having spent his entire youth under Madame Edith’s warm care and ballet tutelage, there’s nothing for it but to offer his time and experience to ensure the show goes on as scheduled.
