Part 2 of this
So no, actually, I'm not done talking about colours and the Kiramman family!
Yes, we established that green is the Kiramman family colour, but they actually seem to have a secondary family colour as well - purple.
House Talis' family colour is red, thus their banner is fully red. But the Kiramman banner? It has purple details at the bottom, underneath the green bulk.
That's not the only case of purple being associated with the Kirammans. The tree in their garden has purple petals (which are dropped into Cassandra's casket at her funeral to further emphasise their familial importance), Caitlyn changes her bed curtains to purple and she also wears that super cute purple pyjama top when Jayce visits her in season 1.
One of purple's connotations is power and inner strength, which are key qualities held by both Kiramman matriarchs. For Cassandra, I think it's clearly demonstrated through her building the vent system; Piltover's general consensus around that time was very negative towards Zaun, so to come out and say "The people of the Undercity deserve to breathe" and then spend who knows how much money building a ventilation system that runs through the entire city surely would have taken not only a lot of power but also a lot of inner strength. It's those qualities that allowed Cassandra to defy the opinions of others and do what she thought was right... That sounds familiar, doesn't it?
Caitlyn goes through the very same thing. She directly goes against both the Enforcers and her own mother by breaking Vi out of Stillwater and running around Zaun trying to solve the case and get the crystal back herself. Then, when she and Vi present their case to the council, they're still defying the general consensus - and Caitlyn even holds onto this in the early parts of season 2, like how she goes against Salo's idea for violence by saying "Innocents will be caught in the crossfire". Their defiance is their strength.
One instance of purple within the Kiramman family is particularly interesting, though: Caitlyn's Zaun disguise outfit.
It's purple. One of purple's most famous connotations is wealth and prosperity, due to how expensive its dye used to be. So I think it's particularly interesting that Caitlyn was wearing the colour of wealth while running around Zaun in an attempt to disguise herself - it calls back to the idea that she's a misfit. She doesn't fit in nor belong where she is, sticking out like a sore thumb despite trying her best.
Obviously wealth and prosperity are fitting connotations for the Kiramman family due to their affluence, along with spirituality for their Ionian heritage (especially with the theory that the tree was actually brought over by said ancestors), but it becomes even more interesting when you break it down. Purple is a secondary colour - you get it by mixing red and blue. House Talis' family colour is red, established through their banner and also through Jayce, and it's an important plot point in season 1 that Houses Talis and Kiramman are close. Cassandra was Jayce's sponsor for the Academy, and she's the one showing Jayce off at Progress Day after his success with Hextech. Red is a part of purple, just like how House Talis is a part of House Kiramman; the Kirammans' prestige wouldn't be as great without Jayce's success, but purple is a more complex colour than red and therefore the Kirammans are still greater than he is. As for blue? Blue is Piltover's colour.
The Enforcers - the police department of Piltover - wear blue uniforms. Hextech, Piltover's greatest invention, is blue.
So House Kiramman is built on both House Talis and Piltover, symbolising its place as one of the most influential families in terms of progress and its rank as one of the founding families. Piltover would not be what it is without the Kirammans, and the Kirammans would not be who they are without Piltover.
But there's one more thing. Purple, being the result of mixing blue and red, symbolises balance - balance between stability (blue) and energy (red). Caitlyn as a character is constantly in and out of this balance: between having a job at the Enforcers but being stifled by her mother and boss, to getting blown up by Jinx and then not having a job at all, to breaking a girl out of prison using a forged signature to solve a case, to all the chaos that happens during said case, up until losing her mother and her own way as a result of her grief. But who's the one person who is, without fail, able to bring her back? Vi. And what's Vi's full name? Violet. A shade of purple.
Vi is Caitlyn's balance, hence why Caitlyn falls apart and descends into madness when she loses her and then later rebuilds herself when they reunite.
Straying away from Vi particularly but still on the topic of balance, I've always been intrigued by the fact that Cassandra and Caitlyn never fought in the garden - it was a safe place for them. Interesting that the tree, which is purple, is also in that garden. Almost like the garden balanced their fiery energies to the point that they didn't fight anymore.
Anyway. Back to Vi.
That small purple stripe on the Kiramman banner symbolises how Vi was always meant to be part of the family. A late addition, due to the stripe being at the bottom of the banner, but it's still there and just as important as the rest. The banner's design would be incomplete without it - just like how Caitlyn's family isn't complete without Vi.
So, yeah. Soulmate stuff, basically. And hey, if you're still not convinced...
Likes 'all things purple', huh? We know, Caitlyn. We know.
