Time to share some snippets!!!

(FUNFACT I’m working on this fic whenever I’m taking a break from my other fics)

And his heart. Esteban could hear it. Fast. Uneven.

He frowned, picking up his pace. “Your heart’s beating really fast.”

Pierre didn’t look at him. “So?”

“Are you scared?”

“Shut up, Ocon.”

Esteban did, but not out of obedience. […]

They slipped through a ripped section of fence near the back perimeter, where wild grass crept over the concrete. The scent hit a few seconds before the sight did.

Blood.

There, limp and already stiffening, was a rabbit. Its fur was matted red, one leg twisted at an unnatural angle.

“That wasn’t here before,” Esteban said, voice low.

“They’re setting out traps,” Pierre replied. “You should warn Lance. And Ollie.”

Esteban nodded, stomach twisting.

And then Pierre stepped closer to kick the bunny with the tip of his toe.

“Don’t!” Esteban started.

But it was too late.

The ground snapped like a jaw.

Pierre yelped - sharp and ragged, the kind of sound no human throat should make. His leg recoiled, but the trap had already caught him. Teeth like rusted iron bit into his calf, and Pierre crumpled backward onto the gravel.

“Shit- hold still,” Esteban said, already dropping to his knees.

The trap was old but strong, silver lined along the hinge, designed to dig deep. Esteban pressed his bare hands to the mechanism, ignoring the sizzle that sparked across his skin. The metal burned like acid. He gritted his teeth, forced the latch open with a groan of effort.

It gave.

Pierre kicked free with a ragged breath, rolling onto his side. His hands clawed at the ground, body shaking. He didn’t scream. Didn’t curse. Just panted like something was trying to climb out of his skin.

Esteban looked down at his own hands: raw, scorched, already blistering where the iron had burned him.
