As you probably could’ve guessed, Halahn has NO trouble with spices. He will sit next to Remi and eat the exact same dish, as happy as a clam. And you KNOW he’s giggling at the faces Remi makes while he’s eating lol. But Halahn’s taste for spice is balanced by a terrible sweet tooth. He’s always sneaking little cakes and cookies from the Skyhold kitchen throughout the day and cannot understand how Remi lived his whole life in Orlais without getting fat on all the delicious SWEETS.

Consumed by the mental image that the ball and after-party certainly goes on all night at Halamshiral, but Remi is no sprightly youth our dear professor needs his beauty sleep but Halahn hasn't managed to get away from the commotion (he's caused) just yet.

He's also been rehearsing what he'd like to say to Halahn, but his body betrays him, he greets Halahn with an accidental yawn. So much for all that sexual energy earlier when he took Halahn for a dance.

Hands - Modeled by Fionn Creber, the faceclaim for Alphonse. Remi had never considered having children, but Alphonse has a very special place in his heart and Remi feels a powerful need to protect and guide him. Alfie probably feels the same towards his adoptive dad. Haha!

Flowers - Mrytle, representing good luck and love in a marriage. Remi’s greatest longing in life is to experience marital domestic bliss. Of course he knows flower languages.

“Are you not done sorting the documents, Alphonse?” Cathaire asks, passing the young elf with a large stack of books in his arms. “Yes, Ser, I’m done.” Alphonse replies, not lifting his eyes off the paper he is hunched over, quill scribbling in slow strokes. Strokes too slow to be writing, Cathaire notes to himself. This section of the library is absolutely quiet and empty, save for Alphonse’s little scratching. “Good work. Let’s see how you did.” Cathaire puts away the final books and approaches Alphonse’s desk, picking up and leafing through the sheaf of correspondences Alphonse had been tasked to sort in chronological order. “Wonderful! Thank you for sorting them. I see you clarified the dates on some of them as well- Oh, what are you doing there? Drawing?” Cathaire berates himself silently for the misspoken tone of that last word. Alfie is a child of 10, even if he is brilliant and capable. Children should be allowed to play and dabble in some hobbies, especially during this difficult time! ...Where did he get this colouring set? Wait, that is- Thank the Maker for his full face masks, all the better to disguise the heat that is rapidly warming his face and ears. Alphonse has drawn what is clearly the Inquisitor and Cathaire himself, side by side. Holding hands? Surrounded by little purple hearts and...runes? WAIT. Cathaire is stabbed by secondhand embarrassment. How many times had he drawn those silly, nonfunctional, fictional runes himself as an infatuated boy in the Circle! Incredible that the silly “love runes” had survived so many years! Oh dear! “It’s a spell.” Alphonse explains, looking directly at Cathaire now. The older elf suddenly feels very uncomfortable. The boy grins. “I don’t think you need it, Ser, but I thought I’d draw this just in case. Every little bit helps.” Cathaire sputters, just the tinest bit. Alphonse’s expression immediately drops, eyes blank yet judging. “Hmm.” He adds another love rune, BIGGER this time. “That was unnecessary, Alphonse! Anyway, why are you so eager to see us together?” “Savhalla! See who together?” A familiar, Very Important Person reaches the top of the stairs. Cathaire stiffens and is extra, extra grateful for his mask and headdress. Conceal, don’t feel, baby. “Inquisitor!” “Andraste’s tits.” Alphonse’s eyes are wide. He can’t believe the love runes work.

I just want you to know that Dr. Dr. Cathaire Duran (for the lack of better titles, because yes he has completed two PhD equivalents in Thedas- Archaeology and Anthropology- amongst other impressive academic achievements) debuting in the Winter Palace, in High Society, in Inquisition uniform AND unmasked, is consuming my brain today.

This is him publicly revealing for the first time in his academic career that he is an elf. To the world. To the noble patrons who funded his research work over the years, to the noble patrons who know him privately and are holding his secret ransom against him.

This is him flexing for the absolute hell of it when he brazenly takes the Inquisitor’s hand and kisses it slowly, sensuously, eyes clear with intent. “My Lord Inquisitor.”

Halahn a little taken aback by the fire in his eyes and very very into whatever this is and wherever this is going. He gets led to the dance floor and is held in the follower’s position when the Inquisitor has been leading all evening. Not that he didn’t practice for this, but-

Cathaire’s little smile and penetrative gaze is deeply, dangerously arousing. The power in his posture is giving him heart palpitations. He swallows hard against the tightness in his throat. Halahn has never seen his beloved like this. I was tagged by @ourinquisitorialness to take this “How do you need to be loved?” quiz for one of my OCs, and next is my grumpy slightly senior gentleman from Orlais, Cathaire Duran.

Casually, the same way you love to breathe

You want someone who will see your favorite flower and will give it to you, without even thinking about it. You want someone who will remember all the little details about you, the things so seemingly unimportant but that matter more than you thought they did. You want someone who will still be there, thirty years down the line, holding your hand while the two of you do two separate things. You want the intimacy of being known by someone who makes you feel safe. You don't want expensive dinners or grand proposals. You want someone who will love you consistently.

Cathaire is amongst the many Orlesian mage academics who take up new employment and residence in Skyhold when Lady Vivienne pledges her support to the Inquisition. Well frankly, all courses and nearly all research work at the University has been halted indefinitely in light of the whole (waves vaguely at demons pouring out of sky) situation. Cathaire is happy for some work to do, if only to take his mind off the whole (waves vaguely at demons pouring out of sky) situation. At Skyhold, he eventually meets and falls in love with the Inquisitor, Halahn Lavellan ( @ourinquisitorialness ). After playing The Game both socially, academically and romantically all his life, being able to stop and be his authentic self turned out to be all he could ever want in life. He’s very emotional about this special relationship. It’s the little things, the tiny gestures that make him feel seen- oh, just... don’t- don’t look, he’s got to dab at his eyes before he ruins the liner.

Winter OTP questions for the (modern au?) lovebirbs! [wild grinning] 8, 10, 13, 14!

8. What gifts would they get each other for the holidays?

Halahn’s actually terrible at giving gifts, I think. It’s not because he doesn’t care, it’s just that he doesn’t pay attention to hints and gets easily distracted. He’d wait until the last few days before the holiday to start thinking about what to get. He’d wrack his brains trying to remember if Remi had pointed out anything at a store they’d walked by or if he’d mentioned anything when they were talking.

He’d go through a dozen gift ideas trying to decide what to get, and Halahn has the salary to go big. Does he get Remi a new Armani coat? A surprise vacation to Easter Island? A custom set of sexy lingerie? A beautiful pair of matching gold pendants? A leatherbound first edition copy of Remi’s favorite novel?

In the end, he’d do something completely spontaneous, like buying a puppy for both of them without talking to Remi about it beforehand -- but I guess Remi won’t stay mad with him for long when he sees the gold rings tied to the puppy’s collar, stitched with the words, “Will you marry me?”

As for what gift Remi would get for Halahn...well I guess you’ll have to tell me that. ;)

10. What sort of seasonal treats does your OTP like to eat?

Halahn has a terrible sweet tooth. In Thedas, he’d be wolfing down all the Orlesian cakes and cookies he can get his hands on, and probably forget to share because...that’s Halahn, hahah. For the holidays at Skyhold, he would definitely make sure to get all the goodies imaginable from all the corners of Thedas, to throw a proper feast for the Inquisition. Josephine orders something special just for the two of them -- a chocolate lover’s cake from Orlais that Halahn and Remi can share in the privacy of Halahn’s quarters.

In the modern AU, his favorite holiday treat would be the homemade chocolate and walnut rugelach his mother makes for Hanukkah. Assuming modern Remi doesn’t have parents, I’m sure Halahn would invite him home for the holidays and get his mom to make her rugelach and a ton of other traditional Jewish treats and snacks. <3

Assuming Remi said yes to the puppy proposal, they’re gonna have some good news to share with Deshanna, huh? ;)

13. Who tries to get a secret gift for the other one for Valentine’s Day?

I have to think this would be Halahn, although I’m not sure how successful he’d be. He’s horrible at keeping secrets for long, especially when he’s excited about surprising someone.

He knows Remi is a hopeless romantic, so he’d try to surprise him with all the classics -- chocolates, flowers, romantic music, candles, rose petals, all that cheesy stuff. But he’d probably be super suspicious if he saw Remi that morning, unable to stop giggling at every other sentence -- but I like to think Remi would still be really delighted, even if it wasn’t as big a surprise as Halahn might’ve wanted it to be.

14. Would your OTP take a walk together in the snow?

Of course! Assuming this is the same holiday they’re spending at Deshanna’s house in New York, I’m guessing it’s the first time Halahn’s been home for a good old fashioned Northeastern snowstorm, since he’s been living in California for the last several years.

So basically Halahn’s gonna be as excited as a little kid when he wakes up one morning and looks out the window to see the ground all blanketed in snow. He will drag Remi outside to make snow angels and have a snowball fight. So...I guess that’s not a walk exactly, but it’s something in the snow. xD
