The prompt 38 gave me an idea. A boy and reader have been friends for a long time blah blah blah, they started to get closer, fast forward to when they wake up one morning in their home and realize that ”we never actually ’officially’ started dating. Are we even dating? I haven’t even asked you to be my girlfriend”.

#38 - Everyone thinks we’re already dating, but we’re just best friends- oh wait
“stop hogging all the blankets,” calum muttered sleepily as he tugged them closer to himself, your body being pulled with it to his chest.
“was that just your excuse to cuddle me?” you laughed softly, tucking one of your legs between his.
“are you sure it wasn’t just one of your tactics to get me to cuddle you?” calum challenged with a smirk. you shook your head playfully at cal while his arms lazily encircled your waist. “you’re pretty,” he hummed few seconds later.
“you’re not.”
“how did i get so lucky to have such a kind girlfriend that never fails to appreciate me?” he questioned sarcastically with an eye roll, chest rumbling as he let out a quiet chuckle.
“i mean, technically i’m not your girlfriend,” you shrugged.
“what?”
“what?” you ask back, moving your hair out of your eyes. “you’ve never asked me to be your girlfriend, and i never asked you to be my boyfriend. if we’re being really technical about this, i’m not really your girlfriend.”
calum just stared at you in confusion, deep in thought.
“holy shit,” he muttered eventually, rolling onto his back. “we never actually ‘officially’ started dating. are we even dating? i haven’t even asked you to be my girlfriend.”
“baby, it’s okay,” you laughed, placing a hand on his cheek to make him face you. “we are dating. just because we never made things properly official it doesn’t make our relationship any less valid.”
“i know, but, i don’t know,” he shrugged, sitting up. he took your hand that fell from his cheek and laced your fingers together. “wouldn’t you like to be asked?”
“i literally don’t care, as long as i get to be with you,” you chuckled, letting him kiss the back of your intertwined hands.
calum pulled you up so you’d be sitting up on the bed, facing each other.
“well, i do care. so y/n, baby, love of my life, prettiest girl alive, will you please be my girlfriend?” calum asked, bright grin on his lips as he tried to hold back a laugh from the exaggerated pet names he used.
“yeah,” you chuckled, letting him pull you into a loving kiss. “by the way, if we ever do get married, i’d like to be asked first,” you informed your boyfriend with a sly grin, his eyes rolling playfully.
“anything for you, baby.”
