It’s now past 10pm EST, which means the submit box is officially turned off. For the next few hours, the admins will deliberate and follow up with all applicants. There are 25 lovely, amazing, sensational applications, so it may take us a couple of hours. We know the waiting game sucks, and please know we’re putting forth every effort to move with haste.
In the meantime, we have a couple of request for you! Please make sure your submit box is turned on so we can reach you. We also ask you refrain from the temptation to send us questions regarding at what precise time we’ll accept. We totally understand the anxiety that comes with waiting, but we’ve found that sifting through these questions typically adds more work on our plates and ends up prolonging the process. (If you have another type of question, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help you ASAP. <3) We appreciate your understanding!
Messages have been sent, bios have been queued, and 99% of the main has been updated to reflect the community we’ve already begun to build here (except for the masterlist, please look away for now). If you haven’t received a message letting you know the status of your application, please visit our inbox ASAP so we can figure out where tumblr led us astray.
To all of our accepted applicants: congratulations! We’re thrilled to be able to write with you and can’t wait to see where Calderwood takes all of our characters. To all of our applicants: we want to thank you for taking the time to share your writing with us. Being able to read others’ work reminds us why we love roleplay so much and inspires us to do the best we can for this group. So thank you, all of you, for such an encouraging start to this new adventure.
Play will begin tomorrow June 21st at 12 pm EST, at which point you can start posting starters and interacting on the dash! As a gentle reminder, we ask that you visit the acceptance checklist on the main if you haven’t already and walk yourself through the list so that you’re prepared to the best of your ability when you make your entrance onto the dash.

Hello, dear friends! We come to you with a big announcement and several proposals we hope you’ll be excited about. So while we apologize in advance for the length of this post, we ask that you read over everything here carefully and share your thoughts with us via the main’s ask.
First & Foremost: Calderwood will be going on a hiatus until September.
We know what these kinds of statements usually mean: the admins dip, everyone loses interest, and things never pick back up again, leaving everyone to find different homes for their characters that never quite fit the same way. We aren’t going to let that happen because we aren’t putting Calderwood on hiatus due to lack of interest or muse. The reality is that we (Beth and Nicole) feel our IC presence waning because of our admin duties. This hiatus isn’t for us to step away from our roles to find muse; it’s for us to find a way to streamline our duties so that we can explore the oodles of muse we already have. We want to get back to the dash with these characters, don’t you worry about that! We just need some time to reexamine the way we do the Behind-the-Scenes dance to make sure we can participate to the best of our ability in character.
Sometimes real life throws a number of curve balls your direction, and for me (Nicole here!), I’ve been dished a lot of unexpected things within a very short timeframe. Sometimes we have to be honest with ourselves about what realistically is and isn’t possible---and for me, over the next few weeks as I wade through these curve balls, it’s not realistic for me to admin Calderwood, nor is it fair to dump all the duties on Beth.
What can you expect from us over the next month?
Our main goal is to streamline our admin duties. We will be working out the best and most efficient way for us to perform admin tasks to allow us more time on the dash with all of your lovely roles.
We won’t be accepting new members. If you’re interested in the group, you are still more than welcome to apply! Just know that we won’t be getting to your application until the beginning of September. (There are a couple of applications in the inbox right now, and we will speak to the applicants individually about next steps as they initially applied not knowing of the hiatus.)
We won’t be holding activity checks. You are still welcome to be active on the dash; in fact, we encourage it! We’ll probably be doing threads, too. This is a great time to do what you need to get ready for the soft reopening in September, whether that means taking a break or getting things rolling.
There won’t be any new events during this time. You probably assumed that already, but just in case, here is an official statement.
So now that you know what we’ll be up to for the next month, here’s what we expect from you.
Let us know whether you’re interested in sticking around. While our goal is to bring Calderwood back stronger than ever, we understand that a month of inactivity on the main can be off putting and difficult to carry on with. If you’re interested in sticking with us and keeping your characters come September, let us know! (You won’t be required to reapply in September and your FCs will automatically be reserved for you.) Alternatively, if this is the end of the road for you, let us know that, too. There will be no hard feelings or obligation either way, and we certainly hope you will rejoin us after the soft reopening.
Give us all your wanted connections. If you have a wanted connection that you’d like to see filled, or something you think could be achieved by another character currently in play, please visit our wanted connection page. All you’ll have to do is copy the graphic & template into a photo submission and we’ll get it posted.
Plot among yourselves! Keep things spicy and exciting by interacting with current members---whether it be continuing current threads, starting up new ones, or coming up with new plots or connections for when the hiatus ends. Remember, while the Calderwood main will be inactive until the soft opening in September, you are more than welcome to continue roleplaying here!
Give us some fresh new faces! While we won’t be accepting any new members during this hiatus, we would love to give our current members the opportunity to branch out in Calderwood first. Now that you’ve seen the dynamics of our current population, maybe there’s another area of the dash you want to dive into, or a character you think would make the perfect fit for a wanted connection. Whatever new concepts you might want to explore, we would love to see them! Who knows; we may even bring a few fresh faces to the dash, too.
We know these messages are never fun to read, but please know that this isn’t goodbye from us. We’re still here (and queer) and wanting to bring Calderwood to life with you! We’re simply dialing it back for the next few weeks, getting admin things in order, and preparing to come back with a bang in September.

We haven’t specified a certain timeframe since we prefer a relaxed environment. We know you’re busy IRL and can’t always get to the computer, so we want to give you all plenty of opportunities to engage with the event if you’re interested.
I’d say try not to post any 4th of July event starters past Sunday (again, totally not a fixed date, just a suggestion so we can keep the dash moving along), but you’re welcome to continue your event threads for however long it takes to finish. We’re not here to rush you! Take your time and enjoy the event. :)
Hey there, ho there, and happy hump day. We’re touching base with a small nudge and some announcements, so get ready.
For starters, you’ve probably noticed that most starters aren’t showing up in the designated tag (thanks for all those glorious, user-friendly updates, tumblr!). To make things a little easier (hopefully!), we’ve created a starter blog! We’ll be reblogging everyone’s starters onto this blog in the hopes that it makes them easier to find and interact with. Similarly, if you find your starter hasn’t been getting much attention and we’ve somehow missed it, feel free to IM a link to the starter blog and we’ll get it reblogged ASAP.
Secondly, if you’re interested in joining Calderwood’s Discord server, shoot a message to the main and we’ll give you an invite link. You’ll find channels for starters, plot calls, and bonding with other characters who live in your neighborhood. We hope you’ll join us over there!
And now for the announcement! Drumroll, please. We’re extending our maximum number of characters to four per player (dependent on activity, so if you’ve been on the activity check but are interested in bringing another character here, shoot us a message!). We’re still keeping the cap at two characters per player upon initial acceptance.
