Actually that other post got me thinking -- has Caleb. Ever actually insulted a member of the Mighty Nein. Or pointed out a real flaw? Like, ever? He compliments them all the time, and they’re always genuine compliments that are observably true. He’s not one to butter someone up, but he’s quick with praise, and almost always praise for their abilities over anything else.

The closest he’s gotten has perhaps been when he very frankly outlined to Fjord that he felt he didn’t know him, not properly. And that was hardly insult, just an uncompromising statement of reality as he saw it (which is, again, actually how he tends to compliment people).

I mean, it makes sense with his whole “don’t step on any toes” mindset, but even so. In circumstances when he’s already frustrated and angry he’s never (as far as I can recall) verbally lashed out at someone.

It all gives the impression that he either has himself on a very tight leash at all times, or that he really doesn’t think about the failings of those around him save in pragmatic terms. He certainly doesn’t seem to hold any failings he might notice against them, only their actions. In general he seems both the least likely to hold someone accountable for a screw up and also the least likely to engage in any kind of verbal harshness. 

If Caleb doesn’t like you he either keeps things civil, ignores you, or sets you on fire. I can’t imagine him being nearly as harsh with the Nein as he is with himself.
