A week-long declination hearing is currently underway to determine whether 17-year-old Caleb Sharpe, accused in the shooting death of one student and injuring three others at Freeman High School on September 13, 2017, will be tried as an adult. Detective Scott Bonney testified, reading aloud excerpts from the interview transcript, in which Sharpe expressed turning away from his deceased victim: “I didn’t really care if he was dead, so I left.” He surmised of the attack, “It’s just like I know I did something for once and I’m not a failure at it.”
