“I am nothing but a humble employee. I’ve got no business trying to sabotage your deck.” Lie. Not even batting an eye, Caleb lied. No hesitation, no shame, no sign of remorse. There was no denying that he’d wrecked nearly every chance of a win for the other’s game not too much of course but just the right amount. Tricking somebody into losing all the time would frustrate them; keep them away for a while. Definitely not his plan. He wanted them to stay, drink, loosen up. Drunk people were careless people. Careless people were prone to talk more which meant a whole lot of information coming his way.
It definitely wasn’t the first time he’d been the center of rage working at a casino and being held responsible for the outcomes of games, he ought to be at some point. “Listen, if you want to be a sore loser that’s fine with me but I’ve got other customers waiting for me. My manager is in the back if you would like to fill a complaint.” He wasn’t. But seeing as how Caleb didn’t even legally work there, he wasn’t about going back and confronting anybody with any kind of complaint. All he wanted was his information and that’s what he’s gotten. All he needed was a distraction to get away as fast as possible.
