So it's not like he had many chances to survive.

But Lucci is a trained murderer

He killed 500 men alone at thirteen, that's the single piece of backstory we got, he killed (or almost killed at this point) every man in the Galley la before going to Iceberg, he shot and threw out of a moving train Nero without thinking twice

And you're telling me that a trained assassin didn't get the vital points to kill a man by mistake?

He left him burning trough the flames twice, and yeah, it's not that he had many chances to survive, but it would have been easier to kill him, right?

It would also be a death more certain.

One shigan through the heart, or the neck, or the head, your call.

He left him a brief chance to survive.

It's not something a trained assassin, weapon of the government, leaves unattended.

He didn't wanted to get his death by his hands? He wanted to leave him the chance to survive?

Maybe he wanted to let him die burned by the betrayal before the flames got him
