Fresh food is both expensive and turned into a hassle. The issue is mostly that fast food is easier and cheaper on the run than healthy food. If you want fresh food on the run, you pretty much have to plan days ahead.
It sucks that eating healthy has to be so hard :S The problem we currently have is that food is very expensive in Finland, because there's no proper competition in the food market.
But I'm pretty sure that home-cooked meals are still the norm here. We have plenty of instant meals available at the supermarket, and I'm sure many people/families eat them, especially if they don't have time to cook because of hectic work schedules or other reasons. But I think that an actual home-cooked meal here is cheaper than buying something you heat in a microwave oven or ordering takeout.
In my family, things like pizza and McDonald's food have always been a ~special treat~ and I guess many families here have the same attitude. Fast food is also kind of expensive here. I'm pretty sure that in my hometown a Big Mac meal costs almost $10 and if you want to super size it, it'll cost even more. And a similar meal from a Finnish hamburger restaurant chain is even more expensive.
