When you got the phone call from Callen, you sighed when you picked it up. ‘Callen?’ You answered, he took a while to speak. ‘I need your help.’ He slurred out ‘I’m not a therapist – solve your own problems.’ You told him, you could hear giggling and loud laughter. ‘Please.’ He pleaded, you rubbed your eyes, swinging your feet out the bed. ‘Fine, where are you?’ You asked him. ‘74th.’ He said as he hung up. you pulled your hair into a messy bun before you pulled a hoodie on and put shoes on as you made your way to your car.
‘I’m way too sober for this.’ You commented as you walked into the bar, everyone turning to you as you barged your way through towards Callen who was surrounded by girls. ‘Girls, your funs up tonight.’ You told them, they ll looked at you but then they all turned back to him except one. ‘Who says?’ She challenged you, you reached in to your pocket and pulled out your badge. ‘Me, now move.’ You snarled at them, they rolled their eyes at you before they sighed and moved out the booth. ‘Right it’s time for you to go.’ You said to Callen, he turned and looked at you before pulling his hand away. ‘No, not you. Anyone but you.’ He seemed determined. ‘Why not me?’ You asked him. ‘You caused it.’ He blamed you. ‘Caused what?’ You asked him confused, as he refused to move from his seat. ‘Today, when you had the gun pointed at you, you made me distracted. I couldn’t save her because you would have been damaged.’ He murmured out, you frowned slightly. He hadn’t been able to save the woman, as it was either you or her and, in the end, she was in the body bag. You reached for him again, but he pulled back, so you took his drink and moved out the way, so you could make a phone call. Dialing in the only number he would listen to. ‘Sam, I need your help with Callen. Could you come to the pub on 74th?’ You asked when you heard the phone be picked up. ‘Yea, give me ten minutes.’ He replied, before you both hung up. Between keeping Callen in the booth and girls away that were trying to bring him drinks. You then noticed Sam walking through the crowd. ‘What did you do to him?’ Sam asked, you looked at Sam and then back to Callen. ‘I think I broke him.’ You said confused, Sam walked over and placed Callen’s arm over his shoulder and pulled him up to his feet.
‘Thanks, I have it from here. You go back.’ You thanked Sam, he looked at Callen before nodding. ‘Can you tuck me in?’ He asked, like a little kid, you smiled slightly. ‘Whatever helps you sleep at night.’ You replied. He made his way over to his bed, stripping out his clothes until he was only in his boxers. When he climbed in you walked over and made sure he was okay. ‘You.’ He mumbled, as he went under the covers. ‘What?’ You asked him as you pulled the covers up. ‘You’re what helps me sleep at night. Stay the night.’ He asked you, you went to shake you head but he looked at you and you saw the pain that was floating about, so you climbed in beside him. He moved closer and wrapped his arms around you, tucking his nose into your hair. ‘I can’t forget it. Every time I close my eyes I see it.’ He mumbled into your hair, you pulled back and looked at him. ‘Sometimes memories are the worst form of torture.’ You told him, he hummed in acceptance as you traced patterns on his back. he moved his head down to your chest and you sighed, using your free hand to stroke through his hair. ‘Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that.’ You told him, you continued to stroke his hair and felt him relax and his breathing become heavier.
