On base, they’re a menace. Everyone knows it. Can’t back up a Humvee without clipping a barricade, can’t take a turn on the ATV without eating dirt. If there are keys in their hand stateside, someone’s yelling, “Absolutely not, give me those.” 

But in the warzone, something changes. Adrenaline, instinct, sheer dumb luck: nobody knows. What they do know is when the bullets start flying, when the convoy’s boxed in or the road’s about to light up, it’s always Nascar behind the wheel. Doesn’t matter who else is there; the keys find their way into their hands. 

And every damn time, somehow, they make it home. 

On post? A walking insurance liability. In the field? The one driver everyone secretly trusts their life with. 

Books–

Zero survival instincts. If there’s a dumb idea floating around, nine times out of ten it came from them, and everyone knows better than to follow their lead in the field. They’re the kind of person who’d suggest splitting up in a firefight or walking straight into the sketchiest building in town with a casual, “What’s the worst that could happen?” 

And yet… ask them to crunch numbers, balance a ledger, or explain some obscure bit of history, and suddenly they’re a genius. Taxes, supply chain management, or why goats were once considered sacred in Mesopotamia., you name it, Books knows it. 

They might be a walking hazard out in the wild, but when it comes to brains, they’re the one everyone turns to. 

Bones-

Once, a fresh recruit stumbled into their quarters and found them sitting cross-legged on the floor, carefully casting bones and muttering over the results like some kind of witch doctor for another soldier. The poor kid nearly pissed himself, ran out screaming about curses, and by morning the whole base was whispering that they were a necromancer. 

It turned out to be just an old college party trick—anthropology elective gone too far—but the name stuck. “Bones” has been stamped on their helmet, locker, and rucksack ever since. 

Radar-

From the start, everyone swore he had to be a spy. How else could someone know when an ambush was coming, when the weather would shift, or when an IED was buried under the road ahead? His instincts were so sharp it went past gut feeling, like he had a second set of eyes in the future. 

For months, intel double-checked his every call. They combed his background, monitored his comms, even tailed him off base. Nothing. No connections. Just a soldier with a sixth sense so sharp it was borderline unnerving. 

Eventually, people stopped questioning it. He was the guy you listened to when he said, “don’t go down that road”. And while his calls weren’t perfect, they were accurate enough to avoid instant death and dismemberment. 

Vulture-  

The name stuck after a teammate joked he circled danger like carrion over a corpse. Vulture is the one who will shove you in front of a bullet if it means he gets to breathe another day. Not the warmest, not the most loyal—hell, not loyal at all—but his survival instinct is unmatched. 

On missions where numbers matter, you don’t bring him. He’ll bleed the team dry without a second thought. But on suicide runs? On the ops where command has already written everyone off? That’s when you want Vulture on your side. 

Because he will do anything, climb over anyone, chew through any obstacle to claw his way back home alive. And if he’s alive, odds are someone else might be too because his feral determination has a way of dragging the unlucky along with him.

since the discord talked about it and @jakekazansky and I yapped about it too, here you have my personal idea about how Ron “Slider” Kerner got his callsign.

So my idea was something along the lines of this:

Of course, we all know he's built (*cough volleyball scene cough*), but he knows he's fit too, annoyingly fit at that. He didn't grow up giving a shit about nudity and isn't insecure, and suddenly feeling ashamed of his body just because he had roommates now seemed odd. So, of course the guy leaves every sliding door he encounters open 24/7, no shame about it and not one (1) singular thought behind it.

The poor bastards rooming with him, would gladly miss out on a free peep show, though. And after many talks and the inevitable realisation that the guy will never remember to close the door behind him his roomies just start screaming "SLIDER" to remind him to close the fucking sliding door oh my god!!!!
