To answer your questions, it absolutely wouldn’t change the way they see and respect reader. Given the nature of their relationship (or arrangement, whatever we’d like to call it) and the dynamic I gave it in this specific fic, Jake wouldn’t brag. He would probably answer the squad’s questions at first, in a teasing tone, but as soon as they get too intimate or too intrusive, he is shutting that shit down.
He absolutely does not want you to be uncomfortable and for the thing you have going on to stop just because the squad couldn’t stay respectful of your guys’ privacy. But yeah, in terms of the squad’s respect towards the reader, this does not change a thing. If anything, they are genuinely happy for the both of you (and at this point they are just waiting for the announcement saying you two are officially a couple and not just fuck buddies).
Now concerning Maverick, he doesn’t know. Mostly because I think that reader would absolutely be intent on not letting the information slip out from outside the squad’s circle. While you might allow your friends to tease you, this subject is not made to be public matter and no way in hell are you gonna get your commanding officer know that you are sleeping with one of your fellow pilots on a regular basis. And While I have no actual knowledge on the subject, I do think that such a relationship would be prohibited by the navy or you would at the very least need to inform them of any real relationship (being a couple).
And if somehow Maverick ever found out about it, I just know he’d keep quiet. Wouldn’t say a thing, probably just a few knowing glances and smirk when he’d see you fighting, but other than that he’d be respectful of your private life and knows that he has no business to say anything to you (specially considering how many Navy rules he broke and still keeps on breaking.)
