Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Taken on 26/05/2020. Another morning to make the most of the sunny and warm weather we've been having🌞. And where better to stretch my legs and enjoy the fresh air than Monferrato. To change it up a bit, I wanted to visit the Alto Monferrato area that rises from the banks of the River Tanaro into the mountains of the Apennines bordering Liguria. To get there, I took a bus from Asti ('Gelosobus') and made my first stop at Costigliole d'Asti, then taking the same bus all the way to the final stop: Calosso. Situated on top of the high hills between Monferrato and Langhe, Calosso is immersed in an enchanting naturalistic and landscape environment among sloping vineyards. It's one of the highest villages in Monferrato with an altitude of 399 metres above sea level. Unsurprisingly, then, for visitors to be treated to a splendid panoramic view of the quiet countryside. While some wine villages – in my opinion – have lost some of their charm and character due to excessive tourism, not so for Calosso as you can see by swiping through this photo set. Maybe because it isn't so easily accessible. Or maybe because it isn't so well known. In any case, Calosso retains its medieval layout thanks to its 14th-Century castle that has kept the appearance of a medieval fortress on the north-east side with the massive cylindrical tower decorated with hanging arches and loopholes, which were used by archers. I arrived at Calosso at lunchtime, which could explain why it was completely deserted.
