"Honestly? Sven and Charles would be pretty cute together if not seperated by the fact they're from different factions that hate eachother. Not sure if theyd get along right away but sven would tolerate him more than henry or ellie." submitted by anon
OC FACT: this thing caused the death of an entire neighborhood due to anti italian sentiment
God forbid women/men/nonbinaries do anything.
I have an OC who consumed a whole, densely populated planet because he got locked in a hole for thousands and thousands of years! His name is Calson he is made of shadows and nothingness :]
Calson and Calsee were, for the first time in millennia, alone together. More than that, for the first time in forever, they were home.
Calson stared down his friend. His heart was heavy, and his mind was clouded. She simply stared back, absolutely exhausted.
“Why...I’m here.” Calson muttered, as if he were asking himself. “Why am I here?”
“Are you sorry? Do you regret it?” Calsee asked. Calson shook his head.
“No. Everything I did, I would do again.”
“Then why are you…?”
“The one thing,” he interrupted. “The one thing I regret is everything I did to you. I regret seeing you here...because of me. I regret hurting you, Calsee.”
She said nothing for a moment. Upon closer inspection, you could see that she was ever so slightly transparent, with all of her glow and power diminished. This was her sacrifice, the last thing she did before leaving. Now, instead of death, she was cursed to rest for years beyond time.
Unless, someone were to take her place.
“...Is this how you’ll repent?” she asked. “You committed such atrocities for this planet. Are you truly so eager to abandon it all...for me?”
“Of course. It was always for you, Calsee. I love this planet, but it may as well burn if you are not on it.”
“I’ll leave. You know I’ll return to Rien once I wake up.”
“...Fine. That’s fine. I don’t care anymore.”
Looking at Calson, his essence had begun to fade as well. Despite his survival, he, too, was tired. Tired of living in a world with a war he’d lost.
“I just need to rest. And you...you have something to do. People who need you.”
“Cal-”
“Please, don’t argue. Just let me set you free.”
Calsee exhaled. Despite herself, her face softened.
“...I never needed you to do that. I just wanted you to be happy.”
Calson didn’t respond. Deep within himself, he knew that already.
“The anomaly is lightyears away. Those who go to investigate will be gone for millennia. To those who volunteer, we thank you. You will be doing us a great service.”
The speaker steps down from the podium, bowing their head slightly. They look forlorn, as does most of the crowd. It's not the length of time that worries them, but rather, the distance. They’ve all known each other their entire, unending lives. To be separated for so long...it’s a tragedy they’ve never had to face before.
“...I’m going.” one whispers to another. He looks at her, eyes wide.
“Wh-! Really? Why?” he begs, fear in his voice. “It’s dangerous! We don’t know what's out there, and-”
“And you’ll miss me, right?” she asks, smiling softly. The other one frowns, turning his head to hide his blush. She chuckles at him. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’m just as nervous as you are, but, well, someone has to go. If it has to be anybody, I’d rather it be me. Besides, y’know...I’ve been curious.”
“Too curious for your own good, I’d recon.” he interjects. “And too self-sacrificing, while we’re at it. Come on, just let someone else handle it. I don’t need you to be in needless danger.”
“Oh? And since when were you in control of what I do, hm?” she teases. “It’s not that I feel forced to go. I want this, Calson. I want to see what’s beyond our world. Don’t you?”
“I’m fine here, thanks.” he scoffs. “What could be better than here, huh? We’ve got everything we could ever want, and more. What point is there to leaving?”
“The fact that we’ve got more! More than we need, more than we know what to do with. If something’s creating this much nothingness, then it’s obviously important.” she argued. “It’s a crisis at this point. They wouldn’t be sending us out if it weren’t.”
Calson was silent. What she said was true, but still, he had his doubts.
“...I’m going, no matter what you say.” she said, staring him down. “You’ll just have to accept it.”
“Hmph. Fine.”
Calsee’s eyes lit up.
“Really?”
“Sure. But you won’t be going alone.” he clarified. He finally met her eyes, this time with a smirk of his own. “If you’re going, then so am I. Someone needs to look out for you, after all.”
Calsee stared at him for a moment, expression difficult to read. Then, a smile grew across her face, big and wide, as she wrapped him in a warm hug.
“Ack! Hey! Let go already.” he complained, half heartedly pushing her away. She just laughed at him.
“A journey together, across the great space… I can’t wait!”
“I can see how. I’ve changed too, you know. This situation…it was always going to change us, undeniably.”
“…”
“Still, though, it is disappointing. I miss your voice, you know that? Even before we arrived on this planet, I loved hearing you speak.”
“…”
“I tried to keep it a secret too. I’m sure you figured it out straight away, though. You’re smart like that, always seeing through the mask and pulling out what’s underneath. That’s part of the reason I loved you so much.”
“…”
“And…I know it sounds bad, but the truth is, I’m glad it was us who survived.”
“…”
“Of course, I would have preferred if everyone was still here. Of course I would have. But, if it had to be any two sprites, I always would have chosen us.”
“…”
“But, I suppose I won’t have to think about that anymore, huh? Once this planet is fully converted, we can invite everyone down here and live like we used to. Can you imagine that? Seeing everyone again?”
“…”
“We’ll see the stars again. Gods, it’s been so long since I’ve seen the stars. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had changed in some way, maybe they’ve all moved around, or have fizzled out completely. Wouldn’t that be strange?”
“…”
“…Aren’t you excited?”
“…”
“…I don’t know why I bother. Get the kids ready, tell them their time has come. Say goodbye to the ones you’ve gotten attached to.”
“…You’re sure?”
“Hm?”
“You’re sure…that it’s the only way, right? There’s…no other option.”
“Of course there isn’t. If there were, we wouldn’t be doing this, would we? Come on, focus. You’re supposed to be in charge too, you know. Act like it.”
“…”
“…I’m leaving. Figure yourself out before it’s too late, would you?”
