The energy in Cal's room grew quiet after another fight. She picked up a knocked over picture frame and Luther readjusted bottles of perfume he'd knocked over. His touched the red scratch that ran down his arm and inhaled sharply through his teeth. He'd received it when he grabbed hold of her upper arms. It was barely bleeding, but it still formed a red line down the entire length of his forearm. It was a quieter night, with minimal injuries, but they'd gone way past the typical "You're a bitch, You're an asshole," banter. Her feelings were hurt and his pride was smashed to pieces, and even the typical hug from behind and kiss couldn't bring her around, and he didn't feel like he had quite come around either.
Cal sat on her bed as Luther tried to get their moods turned around, kissing her and running his hands over her body, but her lips barely pursed beneath his and she felt out of place in his arms. He stood.
"I think I'm gonna go, then..."
"Okay..."
Just as he reached the door, he heard her voice.
She spoke with a pain, fear, and insecurity that she hadn't exhibited in many years, since around the first time Luther had met her.
"Yeah?"
"Do you love me?"
He was a bit taken aback by the question.
"I'm imprinted on you, Cal"
"Yeah, but do you love me?"
"I don't know what you mean by-"
"You know exactly what I mean by that..."
He ran a hand through his hair, did he love her? When things were good they were great. When things were good; he went crazy when he kissed her, when he made her laugh, with the way they'd play fight and not to mention when he 'slept over'. She made her feel things he'd never felt with anyone else, but sometimes, those things weren't so good. She infuriated him, used his mistakes against him, made him question who he was and what he stood for. He wished he could stop hurting her, and that they could stop hating each other. He wanted more love making and less make-up sex. He wanted to just fall asleep next to her and not wake up sore and hungover. He wanted things to be like they used to be, but those days were gone, and this is what they were stuck with. He didn't want to lose her, he needed her in his life now that the imprint was so strong, but he couldn't lie to her.
"I..." He bit his lip and crossed his arms. It hurt to admit it to himself as much as it might hurt her. "I don't really know anymore..."
