It's the little things like this that illicit awe of the Doctor. It isn't only humans he's ashamed of when they don't know the names of people they've been around who have died. The tone of voice he uses is heartbreaking when he says "You didn't know Isabella's name." A little more time and they would have turned that girl into one of their own, another daughter for Signora Calvierri to give to her sons. She would have been a building block in the reestablishment of their species, and the mother of the remainder of her species didn't even know the name of such an important girl. This essentially makes her unimportant to Signora Calvierri's mind. And with the Doctor's belief that everyone is important, it's both an affront to him and to the human race he loves. He won't take any of that crap by this point, and this is why the Doctor is amazing.
