Me: *has to stop the movie to listen to See You Again and have a proper cry over Calvin and Claudette*
See you Yesterday
Wow, I really love it. I didn’t expect to but I did. I tear up so many times while watching it. I love that they had Michael Fox in it as a nod to the Back to the Future movies. i love all the characters, even thought they frustrated me sometimes.
CJ frustrated me the most but I loved her the most, lol. Calvin, he broke my heart a lot but he made me love him while he was breaking my heart. Sebastian, he was my head, everything he said made sense and in my head, I agree with him but I still wanted him to shut-up because my heart desperately needed shit to be fix no matter what. Eduardo, I just want more of him.
I love how they tackled the “Black Lives Matter” issue, even though I didn’t like that they tackled it. I understand why they did, because it is part of our reality, it is something that we are reminded of every day because it keeps happening everyday.
I didn’t like it simply because I want black children, who are more likely to watch this movie, to be able to forget the real world for a while and just enjoy the fact that characters who look like them are doing incredible things. Characters who look like them can exist in a world where they can explore the past and the future, not as a mean to end, but as curious explorers who just want to see more and learn more. I want them to see characters who look like them having fun and making stupid mistakes that doesn’t remind them that they live in world that believe they are expandable. The movie gave me a little bit of that but not enough. I wanted more.
I love and hate the way the movie ended. It left me with a feeling of despair and frustration, like in real life, it makes me feel like nothing we can do will stop what is happening to black people. Like we are sitting ducks, just waiting for it, no matter what we try to change to prevent it. But at the same time, it left me with a feeling of hope. Like yeah, right now there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight, but as long as we are alive, capable of doing something, anything, we have to keep trying.
I really, really want a sequel so I can see the fruit of that hope and more.
On “See You Yesterday“
In a way, ending on C.J. taking a leap of faith on yet another time loop to save both Calvin and Sebastian speaks to the Black Lives Matter movement. There always seems to be a black victim of police brutality seemingly every week, if not every day. Someone young, someone innocent, somebody in the wrong place at the wrong time. Always somebody’s son, daughter, father or mother.
Communities take a stand against these injustices but with how frequent these shootings happen, it’s as though that there’s no true end to it. That no matter how much you fight for the future, nothing seems to change despite how much progress we have achieved. White cops will keep killing black people they see as thugs at the drop of a dime without any of them addressing the real issues.
It’d be easy to just give up and let whatever happens happens. Life’s a bitch and then you’re shot down like a dog. Even if it’s not you, it’ll be somebody else’s black ass. If it’s not Calvin, then it’s Sebastian. If it’s not Sebastian, then it’s Calvin. And yet... the Black Live Matter movement and its members haven’t given up on a better future. C.J. out there isn’t giving up on a better future.
That’s why it ends the way it does so powerfully. On a young black girl going back in time again and again to change her family’s fate. Just like millions out there protesting out there to change any other innocent black person’s fate. It might be impossible, it might be a never-ending cycle that there’s no escape from. Yet it’s worth fighting for because the only other choice is... doing nothing.
Will we ever truly make police brutality a thing of the past? Will C.J. create the future she desires? We may never know but that doesn’t mean we can’t take that leap and do our damndest to at least see if we can. We owe it to them all.

Calvin walked to catch up with Peter, throwing his arm around the other’s shoulder. “What’s up Parker, word around is you’re dating my baby sister now, and I wouldn’t be doing my brotherly duty if I didn’t have the ‘talk’ with you about her”
THEY SHOT CALVIN.
Open To Hope Mikaelson [Hope Saves Him From A Vampire Attack]
Calvin was just minding his business, he was new to Mystic Falls and to him it was a boring town, he hated his parents for pulling him from Florida, from his friends, to move to some backwater town in the middle of Virginia he already had it set in his mind that once he graduated from high school he was going to attend college back in Florida so he could be near his friends. Earphones on he was walking home from school not realizing the dangers that usually crept around this town nor did he know about the town’s history of having supernatural among the population so when he was knocked to the ground his phone sliding into a storm drain he cursed and pulled his ear phones out of his ears. “Damn it, dad is going to kill me”
That’s when he heard noises behind him and turned around to see a guy pinned against the wall of a building a girl standing opposite him. How she was doing what she was doing confused him. Soon the guy ran off and the girl turned to him but he wasn’t paying attention to what she was saying before shaking his head.
“I’m sorry, what?”
