FCE Writing - Letter

This comparison of formal and informal vocabulary will help you to prepare for the writing section of the Cambridge First (FCE) exam.  It is important to think about who your letter is for - is it a job application?  Is it to a friend?   This is important because you need to know if your writing should be formal or informal.   Using the correct tone in the letter is essential if you want to receive a high mark in the exam, and the following exercises will help you to remember some useful vocabulary.

Use of English Part 3 Practice #5

Change the word to complete the sentence.  You will need to consider prefixes/suffixes, and word class, verb/noun/adjective/etc.  Then, think about the meaning - does the sentence make sense with your word?

Use of English Part 3 Practice #1

In Part 3 of the Use of English section, you need to change the word they give you to complete the sentence.   Think about what type of word you can see, and how the sentence would look if you change it to a verb/adjective/noun, and the different suffixes/prefixes you can add to change the meaning.  Good luck!
