Y/N stared out the bedroom window, thinking back to when she used to look through it as a child.
That felt like centuries ago.
Back then, this wasn’t her home. This house used to belong to her best friend’s family. It used to remind her of simpler times. It used to store the laughter-filled memories of her and Sam Eliot.
The window she used sit at with Sam to star gaze might of well had iron bars on it and she have chains around her wrists. This house had become her own prison and Campbell Eliot her captor.
Months ago, Campbell had managed to use Harry and Lexie to take control of New Ham.
Y/N had fought against Campbell, but it was useless. He had the whole town wrapped around his finger and they didn’t even know it.
Campbell had manipulated his way into power in ways that even Y/N had to admit we’re ingenious.
During the months Y/N had been locked up in Campbell’s house for, she’d thought deeply about Campbell’s plans. She’d taken the time to figure out how he’d done it, hoping she could find some flaw or some way to undo what he’d done.
Lexie has been an easy target for him. She had her own personal vendetta against Allie and was willing to help take her down. As for the guard, they were all complete idiots, aside from Luke, and all Campbell had to do was tell them that Allie wasn’t giving them enough power for them to believe it.
Y/N had decided that Harry, on the other hand, was a different story. It was clear to Y/N that Campbell had targeted him from the beginning. The second Harry began to crumble, Campbell took advantage of it. Within weeks of the town disappearing, Campbell had Harry addicted to drugs. Similar to Y/N’s situation, Campbell owned Harry in every sense of the word.
Ever since she’d known him, Campbell had always been cold and calculating. It was always clear he had a dark side to him. For that reason, she had always tried to stay as far away from him as possible.
Campbell, however, took every opportunity to get as close as possible to her. For reasons he couldn’t explain, he felt something when he was around her. It was the only real thing he’d ever felt and he refused to let it go.
During her time with Campbell, Y/N had become a shell of the fierce girl she once was- he’d made sure of that.
For months Y/N had lived in her own personal hell, the only thing she had to look forward to were the rare periods of time where Campbell would leave her alone. It would never last long, sometimes he’d have to leave for a day, other times it was simply the ten minutes he took to shower, but Y/N cherished them.
It was the only real time she could breathe without having to look over her shoulder or fake a smile.
Life with Campbell was exhausting.
Y/N had tried to fight him at first, but she’d quickly learned that it wasn’t worth the pain. Now, she knew to put on a smile and do whatever Campbell asked of her. But just because Y/N put on a pretty face and pretended to be in love with him didn’t mean she was safe.
Every second was draining. No matter how much she kissed him, or made him dinner, or said how much she loved him, she was never safe.
He was so unpredictable. He was so easy to be set off. He could be so angry with her one second and completely in love the next, it was impossible to know what to expect.
She held back a flinch at the sound of her name coming from his mouth. She hated it here, she hated him. She turned away from the window and glared at him.
“Y/N, what are you doing? I thought you were going to make us dinner,”
The way Campbell spoke made her want to throw up. His tone made it clear that he not happy with her, and she knew from experience that this was his ‘polite’ way of threatening her.
Y/N ran her hand across the tender bruises across her arms, “Campbell,” she took a shaky breath, knowing that he was not going to be pleased with what she was going to say. In fact, her words would probably lead to more pain and bruises, but she had to try. She couldn’t live like this and pleading with him was the only thing left she could think of.
She’d tried to escape, more than once, but every time Campbell would find her, and he’d be furious.
The only time she’d successfully made it out of the house, the town turned its back on her. Helena had tried to keep Y/N hidden in her home, but that only lasted a day before the other people living in the house ratted her out to the guard who dragged her back to Campbell, kicking and screaming.
Escaping wasn’t an option.
The only way Y/N was going to get out of her own personal hell was if Campbell let her go.
“Campbell, please,” she begged as a tear fell down her cheek, “Please just let me go, I-I can’t live like this,”
He furrowed his brows, “Y/N, what do you mean?” He scoffed a little, “Everything you could ever want is here-”
“I’m your prisoner Campbell!” She screamed, hot tears streaming down her face.
“No,” he shook his head and took a threatening step towards her, “You’re not a prisoner-”
A hand whipped across her face before she could finish her sentence and a stinging pain spread across her cheek, “You’re not a prisoner,” Campbell repeated, his eyes filled with rage as he took another step towards her and roughly grabbed her jaw, forcing her to look into his eyes. Y/N blinked away tears as she tried not to tremble in his grasp, “You....” he let go of Y/N’s face and brushed back a piece of her hair as his terrifying outburst shifted, “You just don’t understand yet,” he held his gaze into her tear filled eyes, “I love you, Y/N,”
She felt sick at his words. “N-No,” she shook her head, “No you don’t Campbell. This,” She pulled the long sleeves of her shirt up to reveal her bruises, “This isn’t love, Campbell,”
He barely even glanced at the marks he’d left all across her skin, “You’ll come around eventually, Y/N,”
“You’re sick, Campbell,” She spat, “You’re a sociopath, you can’t even feel love- you can’t feel anything,”
“Maybe not,” he said, shaking his head, “But it doesn’t matter what you think, I feel something when I’m with you, and I won’t let that go,”
“You’re never leaving Y/N,” Campbell said, reaching out and wiping a tear from your face, “Some day you’ll understand, and you won’t want to leave,” he promised.
