A list of essential shit to take to Splendour In The Grass
With SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS approaching quicker than you can say 'where's the beer bong at', I don't think anything could be more appropriate then a SITG essentials checklist. I wouldn't call myself a Splendour veteran however I am more then delighted to pass on some hot tips on all things that is Splendour packing and camping. It is events like these that really separate the men from the boys. Nobody wants to be friends with someone who spends all day giving two fucks about how they look, or if they're dirty or if they have broken a nail so first thing is first. Don't. Be. A. Basic. Bitch*. If this isn't enough to stop you from over packing, the walk from your car to your campsite should be. Bullshit aside, it bloody sucks. And I can assure you the setting up and unpacking isn't as half as bad as the packing up and loading the car when the festival ends. TAJ MAHAL VS. THE SLUMS: The coolest thing you can have at one of these things is an absolute rocking campsite. The music does stop. You will keep on going. You will want a pretty/clean space to suck on nangs and indulge in alcohol. You do want to have a TAJ MAHAL of a campsite at SITG 2015! And you're gonna want to try and get there early. Volunteers allocate camping spots and generally if you get in late you end up with the dregs. Also, setting up camp in the dark and pissed isn't that great. A learning experience of course The basics are obvious, and depending on how big your crew depends on what you should take. Recommended but not limited to a tent, tarp or gazebo for shelter, trestle table, camping chairs, an eski, battery operated speakers and of course a but load of bedding should suffice. One of my favorite things when camping is making my campsite look pretty so I'm always sure to stock up on tapestry, paper chains and anything else I can get my mits on that fits into my broke ass budget. Op shops are great for this! FEEDING YOUR TUMMY: The last thing on your mind is food when you're rocking it at main stage, but neglecting your hunger and hydration will always leave you in a bad way. Food is expensive and you can get by with taking easy to prepare meals (think avacados, crackers, watermelon, doritos, tuna), but I can guarantee you will eat from the vans/stalls at some point over the weekend (Grill'd aint fkn bad). The water at SITG is of drinkable standard but it is nice to have a few bottles stashed in the eski for those mornings you wake up with a heavy head. Up and Goes are literally life savers. KEEPING YOURSELF CLEAN: This is a tricky one. I'm a bit of a grot and can handle the weekends antics with a packet of baby wipes but obviously that's not for everyone, but just remember. You will make it out alive. Lines for showers in the morning are HAAAAA-UUUUUGE. My recommendation would be having a shower when the music stops before bed, no lines, no worries and no missing out on any antics either. Hand sanitiser is good, dry shampoo is even better. Don't forget your toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash. Just don't get the one you filled up with vodka and the regular one confused. Disposable ponchos are pretty lame looking but if it does start to rain, you'll be sorted. Speaking of the weather, it gets really bloody cold. And safety doesn't take a holiday. Be sure to layer and wear clothes that can be adjusted to a sudden change in weather. You don't want to be running back to the campsite to grab/drop off big jackets, so something spunky that can be tied around the waist is spot on. GETTING CRUNK: Now we're getting to the good stuff. Oh alcohol how I love you so. But why must you be so hard to hide! Last year while everyone was forking out $4 for a FredFlask, I was strategically saving my Ribenas from 7/11. Great idea. Can be filled with whatever it is your heart desires. Can be taped to body. Can be put in gumboot. I feel like with these kind of things the less dramatic the stint, the more successful it is. I'm a big fan of a few pre mixed dranks also so am always sure to scatter a few throughout my belongings. Cans fit into pringle containers very well. If smuggling alcohol in isn't your thing, the gates are patrolled but cars are hardly checked, so maybe early morning drinking is more of your thing? In terms of other naughty things, SITG is an anagram of STIG. Coincidence. I think not. But I better not go into that. So that is my essential checklist for SITG 2015 - let the countdown begin.

Camp free in BC guide
Road tripping and camping around BC was one of my most memorable experiences. British Colombia is an incredible destination and one that feeds my love for outdoor activities. If you haven’t yet, put “Buy a minivan and explore BC” on your bucket list.
As the winter of 2014 came to an end, Jay and I began our road trip. Equip with a mattress in the back, cooking utensils, food and firewood, we…

The best swimming holes in the Bay Area...period.
You may not know this, but the Bay Area has some pretty cool swim holes. Granted they may not match the natural splendor of Tahoe or Yosemite, but for a short drive, they can be an awesome time! There's also some great campgrounds near these holes. Trust us, there’s nothing better than warming your bones by the campfire after a long day cannonballs! Here are our top picks..
Bass Lake: This midsize lake is just over the Golden Gate and up the Point Reyes Coast. You’ll have to earn the swim with a 2.7 mile hike in, but then you can frolic like a greek god (bathing suits are optional). You may want to consider a raft or a noodle (are you really going to be that person?), but we just usually stick with the rope swing! Camping? There's so many awesome spots to camp. Check it out!
Sunset & Willow Creek Beach (Russian River): Sunset is very well known swimming hole in the Russian River in Sonoma County Sunset Park near Guerneville and attracts a diverse crowd. Like most swimming holes in the Bay Area, clothing is optional, although we hear people have been wearing a bit less of their birthday suits lately. However, you can change that!
Memorial Park, Redwood City, La Honda: This is a small swimming hole/creek, but it’s a top car-camping experience if you are up for it! You won’t find Memorial Park on many maps, but it is a beautiful spot (especially if you can get one of the creekside sites, C20-C22). You’ll be camping right on a beautiful creek amongst the redwoods. It's also only a 30 minute drive from the epicness (we're aware this isn't a word) that is Big Basin Redwoods. Best part is...you can grab your spot with us!
Big Sur River (The Gorge): The “Garden of Eden” is a top beach on the San Lorenzo River in Felton. It’s just south of the Big Basin Redwoods State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains and is about as majestic as they come in the “outer bay area.” Not to mention there are insanely beautiful hikes all around, as well as perfect campgrounds to stay at. There are two deep pools, big rocks and even a waterfall. It is an adventure just to get there, but one that is well worth it..
