Went to my old high school tonight. It’s - different. Fencing. The bathrooms haven’t changed and look - bad. There is a mural on the wall that was really good. A sign says “phones must stay in locker”. The PE teacher has FINALLY left (he taught my sister, me, and was still teaching like, 5 years ago…)
Campmeeting this year was cancelled (I was so looking forward to it too :( Mr. Griffin usually shows up and he’s always so proud of me. It’s the mental boost I need, especially as summer term has started off pretty shitty), so to help out the pathfinders financially, there have been local vespers on Friday nights to get people to buy food (veggie burgers, pronto pups, and ice cream) and give money. The pathfinders are headed to Wyoming this year. I think they go to OshKosh, Wisconsin, every few years (my sister was a member of pathfinders for a very short stint back in the day, and did go to OshKosh once. I never joined.)
Anyway, it was - it was nice. I don’t typically attend church events anymore. I consider myself a non-practicing Adventist. I give tithe when I can. And I have my faith. But going to church has felt weird for a while now. Especially since I’d be going to church with my parents (bruh, all the local churches are ultra conservative. Like, I grew up in a conservative church and had no idea until recently. Yeah, talk about eyes wide open now). And since the president of the conference just resigned - the church my parents go to could be in trouble. Adventist's, like MANY Christian denominations and religions, do NOT take kindly to LGBTQAI+. Especially those who participate in the church (they can be of the church, but not positioned in it, ya know?). The president was a much more centered individual who didn’t agree with the doctrine that LGBTQAI+ are bad. But whoever we get next may not be so kind and loving.
and that is my problem with organized religion. Why participate when all they do is spew hate and denounce the very people they are there to love? I may believe in Saturday as the Sabbath day, and that when we die we are resting for Jesus’s return - I may closely align my beliefs with how I was brought up in the Adventist church, but I am not a fan of how they continue to be stuck in their old ways, unaccepting of how community is necessary and that includes diversity, equity, inclusion, and the LGBTQAI+ community. I’m perfectly happy in my little bubble with God, having my own walk with Him.
Anyway… that’s the ramblings of a girl. Revisiting the old high school was one for the books. Damn. I attended Adventist schools all the way from 1st grade to 12th grade. I decided not to attend post-secondary school at the university. Community college all the way!!!
Bruh, the world is weird. See y’all in the AM.
