Bughead How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days AU
Camp Riverdale: Theme Six, Your Favorite Genre or Movie
(I think we all know by now that rom coms are my SHIT)
Betty Cooper is a writer for the biggest women’s magazine in the country. If only she could be taken seriously for more than her how to column. When the magazine editor, Cheryl Blossom, tells her that if she can pull off the greatest how to of all time, she can run any article she wants. Betty has been dying to write a piece on the woman rumored to be running for President, veronica lodge... but in order to get the right to do it, she will have to trick a man and possibly hurt him- it shouldn’t be a problem, all men are garbage anyway... right?
“You have a terrible poker face, do you realize that?” Jughead laughed, from deep in his stomach, and Betty’s smile grew bigger on her face from the sound.
“This isn’t poker. It’s two truths and a lie. And it’s your turn.” She shoved him lightly, and if she didn’t know better, she’d have said she felt a spark when her skin brushed his.
“Okay. Number one. When I was in high school, I was so insecure that I wore this beanie to school every single day. It was a security blanket somehow.”
“I believe that.”
Jughead looked surprised. “What? You just called me cocky like ten minutes ago!”
“Cocky now doesn’t mean you were always cocky. And besides. I have a hunch that Jughead Jones is more sensitive than he lets on.”
Jughead Jones is tired of losing out on the big projects at work, but when the CEO takes interest in Jughead’s fail safe tactics for winning women over, he’s given the chance to take on the biggest project yet- if he’s willing to put all his feelings aside to use a woman who he may actually be falling for.
“This whole time, this was all just some game to you?” Betty stood in front of Jughead Jones, every part of her aching for him to deny it. But she knew that he wouldn’t. He couldn’t. Because it was true. Still, when he spoke, the words cut into her like a knife.
“It was an article for you too, Betty. I’m not a complete idiot.”
“No, you’re just a complete asshole.”
The two of them may be working towards gaining power in their work lives- but they could both use a How to when it comes to romance. What will happen when the truth comes out?
“Um. Betty.” Kevin said from his desk next to her. “I think someone is here to see you.”
When she looked up, she saw none other than Jughead Jones standing before her.
“Betty Cooper. Two truths and a lie.”
“I’m not doing this with you.”
“One round. And then you can cut me out of your life forever.”
She thought about the way he had made her laugh when they were together. She thought about how she had cried on her couch last week after everything fell apart. And she thought about how despite it all, she was still thinking about him all the time- when she woke up in the morning, when she checked her mail box, while she cooked pasta for dinner.
Betty crossed her arms and made her choice.
She couldn’t help but notice how relieved Jughead looked when she said this. He would have left, she thought. He would have respected my wishes and left if I had asked him to. But he didn’t want that to happen.
“Number one: I originally started dating you to show off for my boss that I could make any girl fall in love with me in 10 days. You now know that this is true.”
“Right. Which isn’t how the game is played.” She pointed this out with a sigh, but he just kept going.
“Number two: A few days in, I realized that I was completely screwed. Because instead of making you fall in love with me, I was falling in love with you.”
He paused here, like he was scared to keep talking. Relatable, Betty thought. I’m suddenly scared for you to keep talking too.
“It started from a place of complete and total misogyny, and I can stand here and explain how it wasn’t my idea, and how I never liked it, but you already know that. Because you know me. And I’m a man standing in the office of this iconic woman’s magazine and I’m not going to act like my toxic behavior is okay. But I’m here to apologize. I’m here to tell you that I love you Betty Cooper. And I’m here to see if this round is actually two truths and a lie.”
He took a deep breath and locked his eyes on hers. “Number three: You don’t love me back.”
The office was completely silent as they waited for Betty’s response. When she spoke, she looked him directly in the eyes, feeling more confident in her words than she’d ever been in a round of two truths and a lie in her life.
“Number three is the lie.”
