one thing I keep coming back to in my head is the 2010 olympics in vancouver. and maybe it's just because I attended those games but knowing how old Shane was at that time, and the fact that he tells Ilya before the 2014 games that he's been dreaming of the olympics his whole life, I just think those 2010 games on home soil would have had such a huge impact on him, especially since it would have been RIGHT before the time he would have been part of that team. he was watching that 2010 gold medal game knowing in four more years he'd be on that team, playing for his country. he got that little pang in his chest when he heard Nikki Yanofsky singing I Believe and probably still does to this DAY.
