Feathers of Fortitude The birds of the Arctic tundra are fascinating. There are many that spend breeding seasons here, only to escape to the south for winter. Relatively few brave the harshest winter conditions and seem to thrive where most humans find it difficult to do so. The Canada Jay, also known as the Gray Jay or Whisky Jack, is one of those birds. It demonstrates a resiliency and a relative lack of fear of humans. Their feathers of fortitude keep them frosty but unfrozen in a land where temperature frequently dip below -40 degrees. #CanadaJay #instagramanimals #wildlife #nature #birds #birds #wildlifphotoghraphy https://www.instagram.com/p/Buvv1O6g6AT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16vca9i6z534u
The newest instalment of "Birds in Ron's Hand". Managed to get this Gray Jay to land on me at Algonquin Park this morning. The Gray Jay, formerly known as the Canada Jay, was recently chosen to be Canada's National Bird. #birds #birdnerd #birding #AlgonquinPark #GrayJay #CanadaJay (at Spruce Bog Trail - Algonquin Park)
A #CanadaJay posted up on a burnt #Stump, watching the trail like it owns it. A #Snack in the beak, then a bold hop onto a #Hand. Quick #Perch, quick #Flight, then gone into the background blur. Would you trust a #WildBird this close?

The Lifeboat U8A9465 by Daniel D'Auria Via Flickr: There are places I go that rejuvenate my interest in living. They are the lifeboat that carry me through the tempestuous seas of life. Yellowstone in winter is one of those places. In frigid temperatures, Canada Jays and other animals find morsels that are a lifeboat of survival until the bounty of spring arrives. I look forward to planning another visit to Yellowstone this coming winter. It will be good to see old friends and make new ones along the way. It is also a great pleasure to be featured by Flickr blog.flickr.net/en/2024/11/21/love-letters-to-flickr-meet... as a supporting member of the Flickr Foundation, Flickr.org’s100-Year vision and the Data Lifeboat www.flickr.org/programs/content-mobility/data-lifeboat/. Flickr.com represents nearly a quarter century of world photography. It is the largest collection of photography in the world. It personally represents nearly 1/3 of my life. It is a precious treasure that we shouldn’t overlook. I am thankful for some of the great minds at Flickr that recognize this and are working on a plan to preserve as much of this as possible.
