As much as I respect and admire Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh as Titans of the theatre industry, maybe both should stop making public statements... Yesterday CM said that he and ALW have decided to permanently close down the London and touring productions of The Phantom of the Opera, but that they would bring it back to London in future. That's not permanent then, is it? Today ALW said Phantom will reopen "as soon as possible". Again, that's not permanent. There are people whose careers are in this show.
