Not the most common stripe colour! It goes very well with beige, here in a light @canclini1925 poplin, button down with a western back stitch and cuffs #ardentesclipei #canclini (à Ardentes Clipei) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcGTUIEMsdn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Shirts are always an issue—finding a good balance between a reliable fit, quality fabric, details and style is never an easy convergence. There are usually two opposite strategies, either going for the luxury road or take the cheap one. The luxury choice, with Marol or Charvet, is never going to be a disappointment. It can simply be very impractical financially. The cheap alternative is certainly the one to avoid: the shirt is never going to be what you really want and you’ll end up wearing them with a feeling of reluctance and inadequacy. And they’ll wear out quickly.
The middle-of-the road approach can be twofold, either glorified junk or affordable quality. Maison Clotilde Ranno in Paris is certainly in the latter category, looking up to the more luxurious options.
The made-to-measure process is the first element that guarantees a real satisfaction. Second comes the opportunity to choose from 400 quality fabrics. They boast a selection of ‘classics’ for business shirts (Alumo, Canclini, David & John Anderson…) but they also offer a series of ‘technological’ fabrics with water-repellent and sweat-blocking treatments or the non-iron fabrics from Thomas Mason. Lastly, Clotilde Ranno offers 23 different types of collars and about as many types of cuffs.
There is a higher-priced option if you want to have the shirt made entirely by hand (379 euros; the standard shirt is 189 euros).
I was offered to try the standard shirt, two different white twills (Sea Island from Canclini and Egyptian cotton from Thomas Mason). Those premium fabrics are a pleasure and the fabrication was at a similarly high level: well-executed armscyes, hem gussets, French seams, mother-of-pearl buttons… The fit was perfect and the excellent realisation clearly results from a high-end approach.
A very reliable house also providing lovely shirts for the ladies and a variety of unusual summer fabrics.
