The fact that like 1/3 of Louisiana folk creatures involved dead or abandoned babies is just kind of crazy.
Feb 15 2025 || 2nd book by a black author to honor black history. Funnily enough, this one is also about a family in Louisiana, like the last book (Cane River by Lalita Tademy, which i highly recommend. I’m Cajun so i have a deep love for Louisiana.)
Only on page 10 of a lesson before dying, but i like it so far.
Both were also coincidentally picks for Oprah’s book club.
Lalita has a second book about her family history that I hope I can listen to on Spotify.
Update: this wasn’t as good as I’d hoped and taking a while to get through (it’s March now) but it’s certainly not the worst book I’ve ever read and I’m definitely going to finish it pretty soon. Only have about 5 chapters left. The MC’s seem to be unreliable narrators and I think that’s a pretty good hook in itself. Can see how it’s a classic.
