How do you feel about this whole "redemption" trying to come through for Endeavor in recent chapters?

well, it’s something that i’ve expected to happen for quite a while now.

generally, i’m glad that Endeavor isn’t suddenly becoming a good person, and the people in his life that he hurt aren’t ready to imediately forgive him for the terrible things he’s done. people don’t change overnight, and trauma doesn’t suddenly disappear, either.

Endeavor is making an effort to become a better person, at least. he’ll never make up for the harm he’s done to his family, but at least he’s recognizing the error of his ways and the pain he’s caused. he’s trying to do better, which is good for everyone involved.

his family is under no obligation to forgive him (as Natsu clearly shows, and Todoroki mentions earlier in the series). but him becoming a better person means he can become a better hero, and make a positive influence on society.

he’s also stopped putting pressure on Shouto to be his successor, too. he’s trying to become someone Shouto can be proud of. it’s slow goings, and it won’t happen overnight. and honestly, Endeavor deserves some form of punishment for what he did. but his “redemption” arc has been coming for a while now, and i’m glad to see that Horikoshi is handling the situation with the proper sensitivity and care that it deserves.

no one is under obligation to forgive their abuser just because they’ve become a better person. but an abuser becoming a better person is always a good thing, because it means they won’t hurt anyone else and can become a positive influence instead of a negative one, and recognize the error of their ways. Horikoshi makes that very clear in these last few chapters.

Endeavor is the new number 1 hero. he’s got big shoes to fill. he needs to become someone that society can rely on, because All Might is gone. he needs to help pull society together. he needs to understand what being a hero really means. he needs to get his shit together both in regards to his heroing and with his family, and he is. slowly. he’s trying to change.

he’s a terrible person who did terrible things. his children understandably hate him for it, or avoid him entirely. they don’t have to forgive him for realizing he did awful things, and for trying to be better. they have every reason to still hate him.

you can appreciate that someone has become a better person while still hating them for the things they did, and Horikoshi makes that very clear.
