Funkdoobiest “Rock On” (Buckwild RMX) (1995)
Two of the best producers back up one of the finest hip-hop singles and artists for the end of the golden-era. DJ Muggs puts together the album original, but it’s Buckwild’s remix that makes it something special, lacing with it Cannonball Adderly Quintet’s “Together” (1970), Les McCann’s “The Harlem Buck Dance Strut” (1973) and so much more. I caught Buckwild’s version on New York’s Hot 97, when meeting Jewish girls in other counties was in full swing and finding my first girlfriend in a Hornets jacket made me feel mint green and fuzzy.
Jazz summit - Armando Peraza, Helen Merrill, Cannonball Adderly, Al McKibbon - Toots Thielmans and Oscar-Peterson reflected in the mirror - backstage at Orchestra Hall Chicago, 1957.
