With great difficulty, I have learned that the simplest of things last. I remember a morning like this where I welcomed business undone and embraced the beauty of the sea.

Even though most of us are stuck at home and can't go out and enjoy art in museums, that doesn't mean that life is boring or uncultured. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles challenged art fans to post photos of themselves recreating their favorite works of art from the safety of their homes. People responded with a lot of enthusiasm and flooded social media with their unique artistic interpretations.
Art is sexy
Love this!
Chick Corea New Trio - The Chelsea Shuffle
In 2001, the core of Chick Corea’s acclaimed and influential “Origin” sextet – Chick Corea (piano), Avishai Cohen (bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums) – formed an innovative acoustic trio to record 11 song album with all but one of the tracks composed by Corea. Worth a listen.
Goodbye My Dear Friend Marti B (1954-2021)
Marti was a prolific writer who worked as a freelance journalist with writings published at a number of news outlets. Witty, adventurous, tough, and provocative at times - Marti was a force and I am so grateful for the privilege of her friendship.
In the past few weeks, I awaken many mornings to find everything painted with the color of loss. I will miss you my dear friend.

Covid vaccination next week and a stable leader at last - life holds much promise.
Sama Layuca - McCoy Tyner
LIstened to this composition yesterday on my way back from a piano lesson and loved the intensity of the movement between the horns, percussion, vibes and of course, Tyner.
The Sama Layuca dune fields are located in Mexico and composed of very fine granules of quartz. The action of the wind continually reshapes this landscape. Not sure if Tyner was influenced by these dunes, but the feeling of movement comes across loud and clear in this piece.
McCoy Tyner’s composition was recorded in March 1974 with sidemen John Stubblefield, Gary Bartz, Azar Lawrence, Bobby Hutcherson, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Guilherme Franco and Mtume.
The Great Shirley Horn - Here’s to Life
There is a beautiful here and its glimmer finally appeared on Jan 20, after a lengthy hiatus. Happy New Year!
So here's to life And every joy it brings Here's to life For dreamers and their dreams May all your storms be weathered And all that's good get better Here's to life Here to love Here's to you
