does landon blame himself for things he shouldn't often?

he does, and he hasn’t been able to stop. he definitely fell into that trope where the kid blames themselves for the parents’ absence. for so many years he thought he was broken, that somehow there was something so wrong with him that his real parents couldn’t bear to be around him, and that thought kind of repeated itself over the years when time and time again he was rejected by foster parents and the system as a whole.

throughout the years, no one told landon that feeling this way was not okay, that he wasn’t to blame for anything that has happened to him in his life, and i think that has had a very negative impact on his mental health. he automatically assumes that anything that has or will go wrong will inadvertently be his fault, and that generally leads to him feeling like he has to constantly apologise for his presence.

logically, landon knows that not everything is his fault and that it’s just the cards that life has dealt, but emotionally and mentally he’s not quite able to mash those two competing outlooks together to form a more healthier thought process. he’s trying, but there’s only so much a boy that grew up bullied and unwanted can do by themselves.
