Canon Remus is kind (or at least tries to be)

- He was visibly conflicted and uncomfortable when Sirius and James went after Snape in Snape's Worst Memory.

- Sirius even acknowledges that Remus is kind when he says that they [the marauders] were all idiots in school and then adds, "Well, not Moony so much." He says that Remus was "the good boy" and that he made them feel ashamed of their crueler antics sometimes, and Sirius seemed to appreciate this at least in retrospect. (I feel the need to note that when Sirius said that they were "idiots" he did NOT mean stupid. He was agreeing with Harry that their actions were not always harmless fun and that he is not proud of being a bully in his youth, so don't use this as "canon proof" that Sirius and James were brainless dumbasses)

- He went out of his way to encourage Neville and was everyone's favorite DADA professor

- His smile/expression is described as "understanding" at least a few times throughout the series.

- Molly sobbed in his arms after she had the encounter with the Boggart. He comforted her (somewhat awkwardly) and gave her a handkerchief: “Molly, it was just a boggart,” he said soothingly, patting her on the head. “Just a stupid boggart . . .”

- In OoTP, Remus speaks with a lonely werewolf at St. Mungo's while visiting Arthur: "Lupin strolled away from the bed and over to the werewolf, who had no visitors and was looking rather wistfully at the crowd around Mr. Weasley... (it was to escape an uncomfortable family situation, but still, it was kind of him to recognize that the man was feeling lonely on Christmas and might like some company)

- He reassured both McGonagall and Hermione when they tried to blame themselves for Dumbledore's death.

- Before he learned the identity of the werewolf who infected him, he felt pity for them because he understood how terrible it felt to lose himself to the transformation, and he believed for a long while that this was the case for the werewolf that bit him. He held no resentment towards them until he discovered that he had been purposely infected by Fenrir Greyback. (And even after learning the truth, he never expresses outward resentment or a desire for vengeance)

Sometimes I'm having a good day then I randomly have flashbacks to posts I've seen on tumblr. Mostly of; cat animagus regulus, regulus replacing peter, regulus and sirius being best friends, dramatic sirius, James being all people pleasing and not arrogant at all (save me arrogant rich boy James oml), remus being a jerk for no reason and being borderline toxic for sirius and I'm not okay any longer. But I cant express that to anyone at school cuz they'll just be like who tf are u talking abt????

i love aus i love reconciliation i love wondering how things could be different or how x character would fit into a narrative but some things are just !! incorrect !! regulus isnt an animagus!! its very fucking hard to become one!! he is NEVER described as intelligent!! quite the opposite!! also, he isnt crookshanks!! he's fucking dead!! he committed suicide!! it's literally one of the three things he canonically did!! stop taking that away!!

regulus could never ever replace peter!! he would never fit into the dynamic the marauders have!! he's also a fucking nazi and remus is equivalent of a jew!! sirius would've hated having him there!!

why? because regulus was a major part of why he wanted to leave leave leave his house!! he was suffocated at number twelve!! constantly compared to his picture perfect brother!! his brother, who was a soft idiot!! who was naive and gullible!! who was the opposite of sirius in everyway!! it was never ever sirius and regulus - it was sirius or regulus!! sirius vs regulus!! they likely had a very complicated relationships!! its very very possible they hated each other!! "i have a brother i could never hate him 😖 i understand sirius, im sure they loved each other <3" unless you grew up in the 70s in a very very uptight house with a mother who was clinically insane and an absent father, both of which supported ethnic cleansing and genocide of a race you live amongst, and your younger brother, who you've likely considered your closest in that torture chamber, ends up going further than your fucked up parents by joining in the ethnic cleansing, by being obsessed with fucking hitler, by fighting against you in war, all while being praised for doing so while you're abused for not wanting to kill innocent men, women and children until you runaway as a teenager to go to the house of someone you've only known for five years because of how horrid it is, i dont think you understand!!

and sirius is called dramatic!! sirius black!! who was in solitary confinement for twelve years, charged for being the very thing he did so so much to be the opposite of, charged for murder of his sanctuary, of his best friends, of his godson, of twelve innocent bystanders, betrayed by one of his closest friends, who was homeless for over an year, who was trapped again in a prison of his old home, constantly exposed to triggering stimuli like his fucking mother!!!!!!! and being made comments about which he deals with so very maturely!! he is dramatic!! despite the fact that he barely, if ever, brought it up!! and if he did, then only to his godson!! his last remaining person!! good god, he suffered so much and he's never, ever allowed to complain!!

and james!! god!! what do we know about him? that he had a massive ego!! a massive heart, yes, but he was proud!! stop with the perspective that one has to sacrifice themself to be good!! i know most people here are teenage girls, that we are taught that this is the only way to be, but it isnt!! especially not to a wealthy pureblood (=white) boy in the 70s!! he likely was incredibly selfish!!

remus, god remus, after sirius - this is the character assassination of the centaury. his entire character revolves around his cowardice!! how unlike a werewolf he is!! how he does everything possible to be the very opposite!! he ruins his life because of how he fears ruining other people!! but fanon remus - he's a fucking proud werewolf, i dont care what people say!! he's abusive, he's a sex-addict, druggie - he's an asshole!! he is literally fenrir greyback!! the man who ruined his life!! 'mr tell me a fucking secret' my ass!! and its just funny! its cute and wholesome and let's focus on how he suffered and how hot he is, when there's no evidence of most of these claims!! let's, instead, focus on how horrified remus would be at what he's portrayed as!! he's portrayed as the very thing he's tried to be the opposite of!! this is just one more example of sirius' trauma being put onto remus to make him some tragic hero, when that in itself is remus' tragedy!! that he died and left an orphan to a fucked up kid, that he had no friends and couldnt hold relationships, that he's forgettable despite standing out, that he's outshone despite being intelligent - it's just not as romanticizable as 'my dad hates me and i'm really hot and smoke cigarettes'

i just yapped so much because god its so annoying!! no one sees it!! "let people have fun" yes, but lets call bullshit out!! dont romanticize toxic relationships to young girls @ marauders fandom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I joked about this but I will repeat:

Canon Remus does not have visible scars!

That was added in the movie because it’s a visual media.

Look, he might have had scars somewhere. (Def my hc). Personally I find it hard to believe that an attack would be limited to a bite only and we know from Bill that werewolves do leave lasting scars.

Another person not described to have scars is actually the werewolf who shares a ward with Mr Weasley in OOTP. (Weird way of phrasing it but it’s not like he’s described in any detail). It’s also important to bear in mind that if most werewolves had visible scars there wouldn’t perhaps be the same ‘need’ for a werewolf registry.

What is unclear is whether Remus’ monthly scratching and biting of himself left lasting scars. I’m inclined to believe it didn’t. As we know, Remus did not have visible scars and I think it’s unlikely that he would never have scratched his face. We also know that werewolves aren’t ‘dangerous’ to other animals - hence James and Sirius and Peter becoming animagi. It’s therefore possible the same applies to werewolves - the wounds he inflicted upon himself in his wolf shape would not be cursed in the same way as anything a werewolf would inflict on a human.

Does it matter? I dunno. It just feels like something that’s been forgotten.

I was skimming the books to freshen up on canon, and I have been noticing a trend with Remus in DH where he tends to start shouting or speaking too loudly when he is overly excited or nervous and I think that is the cutest thing ever omg I love him so much

I've spent a lot of time over these past two months away reflecting on this fandom and my place in it. And I've come to a ground-shattering revelation.

Canon Remus is the worst character in literary history. He's just so boring. Nothing about him is compelling, and the way he struggles with his Lycanthropy is just unrealistic. Werewolves are *supposed* to be violent and aggressive, which is where fanon Remus has canon beat. Canon Remus' preoccupation with appearing normal and civilized and soft is the same as dismissing all of his trauma. Remus DESERVES to scream his trauma out loud at all times. Not only is he a werewolf struggling to control his superhuman strength and bloodlust to avoid accidentally snapping his tiny bf in half he is ALSO an orphan because his parents hated him!

Remus deserves to be angry! He has suffered more than ANYONE ELSE in the entire HP universe. Honestly, Sirius sucks for not breaking himself out of Azkaban for Remus, he was so lonely living with his muggle lover in the flat Sirius bought for him, Sirius has no excuses for abandoning him. On his knees groveling for Remus' forgiveness and affection is exactly where he belongs.

So anyways, all this to say that I was wrong. Fanon Remus is far superior to Canon Remus after all. The wolfstar dynamics are better, too, because how else is anyone supposed to know who the "girl-bottom" and "boy-top" are if we don't make it as clear as possible??
