“Just proud of our team, it was probably our best game of the tournament. But, ya know, we just couldn’t find that goal. (...) You know, if anything, this team’s a master at rebounding. Obviously the past two World Cups haven’t ended the way we wanted them to, but we found ourselves on the podiums at the Olympics.”
Captain Fantastic Christine Sinclair, after Canada’s loss to Sweden (0-1) in the Round of 16. I was there, at le Parc des Princes, cheering on the girls, and I can tell you they did play a good game, and they were in it heart and soul from whistle to whistle; they just, as Sincy says “couldn’t find that goal” (but my, how they tried!!)
And I really hope this interview means Sincy will wait until after the Olympics (and certainly another podium) before considering retirement. She is a wonderful player, and an amazing and humble leader, and she so deserves to end her sports career on a high!
