cantenalcoro said: “I will squeeze the unhappiness out of you!”
¡Teto was a chico after her own heart! Before the boy could make a move, Rosíta squeaked with glee and wrapped her arms around him, squeezing him tight with far more strength than a skeleton should have been capable of.
“ I’ll never be unhappy then! ” she cried with glee, picking Teto off the ground and spinning him around.
Incorrect Quotes: Audrey and Teto ( @cantenalcoro )
@cantenalcoro liked for a starter
Héctor had almost forgotten the joy a baby could bring to him as with his own little girl, but with his great-great-granddaughter who resembled his Coco so much, his heart felt much lighter. He didn’t know if Socorro could see him or not, but Teto could as he carried his hermanita.
It’d been a long night of celebration and remembrance at the Rivera household, more than Hector could’ve imagined. He was lucky to have a moment with his great-great-grandson and talk just as old friends.
“I hope Socorro enjoyed her first Día de Muertos. I know this has been the best one I’ve had in 97 years.”

“ As reckless as he can be....he has a good corazón. He’s thoughtful, & as much as his familia loves him, he loves them just as much. Sometimes, he might even care a little too much, which can be a fault if he doesn’t know when to stop. Regardless, he would never do anything to hurt you. ”
“ I don’t know where he gets his burning passion from (& as a matter of fact his stubbornness as well), but he has a determination of a bull. He will do whatever he can to pull through, & although I don’t appreciate when it’s used against me, I still can’t help but....admire it. I only hope he uses it wisely in the future, because it’ll help him in the long run. ”
“ To anyone that suggests ‘no dimple’ to him....I hope you get a pair of glasses. ”
cantenalcoro asked: “ no, you ARE strong. ”
She nearly laughed at the boy. Strong? Her? Funny. That was a first. Her whole life was defined by her bodies weakness. She was born too soon, and then illness plagued her frequently. So it simply wasn’t true.
“ I’m glad you think so, ”
Mamá Imelda was strong. Her hermana was strong. And her Mamá was the strongest person she knew. She was nothing like that. When her abuelita died, she had tried to be the family’s strength. Someone needed to take charge. Her Mamá had been devastated by the loss, as were Tío Oscar y Felipe. Elena had her niños, so very young and tiny, to worry over. Papá didn’t have the fire needed for the buisness and neither did her sweet Tía Rosíta. Victoria, on the other hand, had been balancing the books since she was trece años. It had to be her.
And what happened then? She died. She got sick, tried not to let it stop her and then...Well, she wished she was strong. Like Elena. Like Mamá and Imelda. Her body refused her. She tried, didn’t she? Tried hard, determined to prove she was strong like a Rivera woman should be.
Then she died.
“ You’re far stronger than me, Teto. ”

She’s asking him where he’s going with his tatarabuelo, as she isn’t aware of the plans they could have made ahead of time. A competition, he enthusiastically responds to her, giving her a smile filled with delight as he nears the door. It’s strange how a year ago, she wouldn’t have allowed this behavior at all---but look where they are now. Music has torn their family, but it also brought them together. Mirroring his smile, she walks over to him & pecks him on the forehead for good luck. “ Remember to have fun as well, Teto. It’s not always about winning, but how you feel about it. ”
Nearly out of breath, she holds him tight in his arms. This doesn’t spare him from the incoming reprimand, though, as she begins to interrogate him to the core. “ ¿How many times must I tell you to not wander far from me? Don’t you know how this land works at this point? ” The frustration in her tone had come out of fear; she nearly lost him once, she couldn’t bear thinking about losing him again. He’s frowning at her, hand nervously clutched around his arm, trying to explain his side of the story. He’s truly sorry about it, & he never intended to scare her like that. Anger then soon sinks away, & with a deep breath, she lets go. There’s weariness in her eyes, but she forgives him nonetheless. “ Let’s go home now.... ”
“ Ay, m’ijo. You need to eat more than that. You said you hadn’t eaten all day. ” She has a plate of enchiladas in one hand, & a metal tong in another. He apparently came the moment he was free from obligations, all chores & expectations done for the day. & the moment he comes & stumbles upon her, she promptly asks if he’s eaten dinner yet. His response being no, she doesn’t hesitate to feed him. In the comforts of her home, she prepares him a plate filled with a variety sort of dishes. Even before he eats, she questions if it’s enough, her abuelita habits kicking in. He insists that it’s enough, but a part of her doesn’t believe him. “ You’re a growing chamaco, at your age I expect you to eat well. ” But of course, she won’t give him any if he truly denies it---she only does this because she cares.
She always can make time when it comes to family, especially when said family member is eager to share with her the song he’s working on. There’s doubt in him at first, as if he begins to wonder if he’s ready to play. She could see it in his eyes, & the way he fidgets around the instrument. He wants both of his tatarabuelos to listen to it, actually. So, what else are they suppose to do other than listen? They take a seat & wait for him patiently. In retrospect, she has always listened to her heart & mind, hence why she was blinded by sorrow & anger for so long. It took a few decades to mend such tragedies, but thanks to him, it wasn’t too late. Therefore, she smiles at him, calmly & reassuringly, knowing he can do it. When he strums the guitar, she lovingly supports him through the sound of attentive silence, while hand is placed around her beloved’s.
“ There’s always next year, ” she tells him softly as she strokes his head. The boy seems to not let go, though, & doesn’t take her petal yet. He’s acting as though this is her final year, & both know how far the truth was from it. But she understands his sentiment, & she acts accordingly by letting him stand a little longer. The night is nearly coming to an end, & he needs to go home before his family questions his absence. A sympathetic smile given to him, she gives him a look filled with hope. “ Even if we’re here---we’ll always be with you. & if you do choose to come back next year, we can’t wait to hear what stories & songs you have for us to share. ”
