The name being a reference to Can Town in early homestuck.
The real life Canton is south of Cleveland, our Canton is just north of Columbus.

it was a friday morning, july 13th 1979. for Canton, it was a typidcal friday morning in the summer. at the Egbert House, Jim Egbert grabbed the paper off the porch, and then sat down at the kitchen table to both catch up on the world and have his coffee. weather predictions, national happenings, but his eyes first sought out the sports section. John shuffled down the stairs, eyes stil not fully open. jim flipped through the newspaper "Looks like the second game of last nights double header got called off." this perked John up right away "what, really?" john said while he cut into his flapjacks. Jim passed the paper to his son.
John read aloud "Pandamonium between games as Chicago radio disk jockey Steve Dahl demonstrates a spectical of musicial ire by blowing up crate of disco records, leading to fans storming the field and causing a riot like conditions, fires lit, White Sox forfeit second game to Tigers, chicago police forced to break up crowd." Jane turned her head away from her own breakfast. "That's crazy. people blowing up disco records!". John took a gulp of Orange Juice. "waste of a perfectly good baseball game."
"Says here the explosion left a sizable crater in the outfield. I'm guessing that's why the second game was called off." Jim said, his eyebrows raised with mild incredulity. "well that's about as hollow of a win a team could get. victory by forfeit because hooligans ruined the ball park."
"And all this over a genre of music they don't like." add Leeann. "I can't imagine how Roxy is taking this. do you mind if I run down to the Lalonde house after breakfast to check on her?" Jane said. "by all means, dear." her mother granted.
On July 12th 1979, WLUP-FM DJ Steve Dahl hosted a promo event between the games of double header between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. As part of the promotion, game tickets where priced are 98¢ on the condition that attendees bring along a disco record to destroy.
After the first game, Steve Dahl rolled onto the field in a jeep, dressed in military fatigues with fishing lures stuck to it simulating metals. He led the crowd in a loud "Disco Sucks" chant before blowing up the crate of disco records, sending shards of vinyl into the air, after which drunken fans stormed the field, setting fires and looting from the park, this went on for a good few hours before the Chicago riot police had to come in and break things up. The second game was forfeited to the Detroit Tigers.
This sent ripples through the music (and baseball) loving citizens of Canton, Ohio on the morning of July 13th.
