Trick or Treat ~ Zelda Spellman

A/n: I finally had the motivation and a little time to write again today 🌿 Thank you for your messages and comments. I probably wouldn't be writing again without you ^-^ I'm not sure when I'll post again, but hopefully soon.

It began Halloween last year when I was taking my little sister, Fiara, trick-or-treating for the first time. She wore her cute pirate costume and I put on a witch’s hat. We went around town in the afternoon and had already collected quite some candy when we made it to the mortuary. Fiara knocked at the door excitedly, bouncing up and down.

A red-haired woman opened the door with a slight frown on her face. But that didn’t deter my little sister, who cheerfully said ‘trick or treat’ that sounded more like a ‘twig or tweet’ in her adorable, childish pronunciation. The woman’s frown softened slightly as she looked at Fiara’s big brown eyes.

“I’m sorry, we’ve run out of candy. There were more children here this afternoon than ever before,” she said. I thought that Fiara would maybe get a bit upset or do nothing but instead she took a piece of candy out of her basket and gave it to the red-haired woman.

“Not wowwy, we nice. Happy Halloween!” Fiara said and smiled as the woman took the candy and thanked Fiara albeit a bit confused. Then Fiara went in for a hug, wrapping her small arms around the redhead’s legs. The woman stiffened, and I quickly jumped forward, grabbing Fiara to pull her away from the woman, while apologizing for my sister’s behavior.

Before I could react, Fiara giggles and runs down the stairs with her basket in hand. I apologize to the woman again, who is now watching Fiara in slight amusement, before I rushed after my sister. Suddenly, Fiara screamed and started crying as she crashed on the ground. I ran to her side, kneeling down to take a look at her scraped knees. I tried to soothe her, but she cried out in pain.

“Bring her inside. I’ll go get something to clean the wound,” I could hear the redhead calling from the door, and after some hesitancy, I gently picked Fiara up and carried her into the house, where the woman took great care of her, getting her to stop crying almost immediately – she does have a soothing aura. We eventually made it back home, after thanking Zelda for helping us.

After that, we ran into Zelda more often in town, sometimes she was with her sister or niece, sometimes alone. Fiara took a liking to the red-haired woman, and I can’t hold that against her. Zelda really is an interesting woman, and if I were four years old, I would also be clinging to her leg – I would even still do it now, being in my twenties. Eventually, Fiara asked Zelda over for dinner, which the redhead had to decline, because they planned on having a family dinner, so, naturally, Fiara invited herself. I was ready to interject, but Zelda agreed to my surprise.

Hilda, Sabrina, and Ambrose looked amused when Zelda brought us along to the family dinner, and Sabrina asked her aunt if we were dating or something, which almost made me choke on my drink while Zelda simply shook her head and took another sip from her drink. Well, we weren’t dating then, but one family dinner turned into two and, eventually, into a dinner date with just Zelda and me – and more dates followed.

It's Halloween again, and the Spellmans, Fiara, and I were on the street trick-or-treating before settling down at the mortuary to eat and play games. This is how we ended up on the couch – Fiara cuddled against Zelda’s right side and me on her left side, Hilda knitting in the armchair next to us, and Sabrina and Ambrose reading ghost stories.

hilda is a goddamn angel and as much as i try to like zelda her belittling her and making her believe even simply getting engaged is an awful thing to do and a betrayal just does not sit right with me
