Once, the world had been noisy with voices, laughter, arguments that ended in trust. A family built from battle scars and stubborn hope. Now it was gone, and all that was left was the hollow ache in Steve’s chest. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets the way they always were when he didn’t know what else to do with them, shoulders hunched, jaw tight.
Steve’s gaze lifted and locked on Thor’s, blue eyes shining like something fragile. Thor’s voice cracked something open that had never quite healed.
❝It's not something I tried to forget. It's something I held onto.❞ He finally spoke up, but his voice wasn't full of the command like usual or firm like he wanted it to be. It was raw, hesitant. He didn't want to keep digging into the wound, but he couldn't stop the words from tumbling out of his mouth. ❝I never stopped feeling it. Not then. Not now. Not even after everything fell apart.❞
His chest rose and fell, uneven, as if he was bracing for a blow. ❝Do you still feel it too?❞ He asked quietly, almost pleading.
