Belenois java

#3122 - Belenois java - Caper White
AKA common white, Papilio java, coronea, clytie, teutonia & deiopea, Pieris niseia, picata & peristhene , Anaphaeis nigrita, Belenois teutonia and picata. The variable markings and colours of the female are probably a factor in the number of synonyms.
Native to Australia, Indonesia, and Melanesia, including, predictably, Java. In Australia the caterpillers feed on currant bush (Apophyllum anomalum), wild orange (Capparis mitchellii) and related plants, which despite the common names are neither currants nor citrus, and are instead all in the Caper family Capparaceae. Hence the common name.
Highly migratory and is sometimes confused with the cabbage white (Pieris rapae).
