Okay, I'm always saying Bentinho can't be trusted because he's a lawyer, and it's a bit of a self deprecating joke, but I truly do think it's very important to the book

Yes there were like 3 things you could study in college back then but like... I think there's a reason Capitu trials became a popular thing in Brazilian schools, and it's buying into his narrative

The whole book is set up as a trial with the reader as a judge and Bentinho arguing his case, from the beginning, before you even know there's any case to be argued, when it seems like just a sweet teen romance.

But Capitu is being tried in absentia.

She doesn't get a voice, she doesn't get a version, she doesn't get to defend herself against his accusations
