The Markhor
A.K.A: "The Screw-Horned Goat" (in Pakistan)
Scientific Name: Capra falconeri
Region: Mountains across a tiny bit of northern India, throughout Pakistan, western Afghanistan and southern Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Size: About 26"-45" (~65cm-115cm) tall at the shoulder, and 52"-73" (~132cm-186cm) long from head to start of tail
Interesting Notes: Alluded to way back in post #38, this majestic goat, the national animal of Pakistan, is one of the tallest goats in the world. It's name is a combination of the Persian words "Mar," meaning snake, and "khor," meaning eater.
Though still considered "Near-Threatened" due to previous overhunting, thankfully conservation efforts have helped this beautiful species maintain, and hopefully soon recover, its population.

The markhor (Capra falconeri) is one of the species with one of the biggest, most impressive, strongest horns in the world. Its horns are highly appreciated by hunters and for their use in chinese medicine, which of course makes it a highly hunted species. This put the species in grave endaregement for a while, though currently is listed in the IUCN Red List as Near threatened.
