even the brightest flowers must grow through the darkness. darkness is inevitable. we need to learn to coexist with the darkness. it won’t linger on forever. | bhuwan thapaliya
Seeing you two together again after centuries apart brings a father to joy—a joy I cannot quite explain. To see my child with the one she is fated for. Without a doubt your heart must be repairing itself from the time it’s been on your sleeve. It has been years if not decades since Thrain has last spoken of you. Your image torments his very existence. A dream he cannot cease.
After, countless letters of wishing you’d come back to me. You are here, but you are an extension of the child I raised. You are an extension of the young woman Thrain grew to love. You are a fragment of the many scattered pieces within the lands of Teyvat.
Wearing your mothers clothing and darkening your hair with magic. You corrupted yourself, a version of an Ursula I do not recognize. The darkness that is inside you holds a place in your very soul.
I am not writing to you to remind you of all the things you have committed in the past. Someday this journal is all you will have left of me. A fragment of your father and his unspoken love for his only child he is doing his best to protect.
For one last time, work alongside the very man you had spent the beginning of your life fighting for. It will be a journey of hardship and one that will leave you falling apart. Forgive each other during this road to Natlan and become one again.
“They act as if they were cut from the same cloth.” Lithia tells Pierro as they watch Ursula and Thrain together. The older woman’s blood boiled, her sharp grey eyes landing on Thrain and the way his posture was relaxed for the first time in years.
Pierro huffs at the comment. Staring at his daughter with a look of content. He watches Ursula mimic Thrain all the way down to his stance. “The girl will do whatever it takes to be near him. It’s almost inspiring.”

Death.
Death was hard to explain to the former. How it happened to anyone regardless of their past, present, or future they had. Death was everywhere, hiding in the shadows and waiting to take its next victim.
The cataclysm happened all too quickly. No warning was left for the helpless ones that had no time to leave their homes. Their memories. Their families. All of it was gone in a blink of an eye.
“Protect the people!” You shout, rubble flying over and around you as you do your best to lead alongside your brother. The long braids you had done for the preparation of battle were now loose and full of sweat, rubble, and blood. Your armor is pelted with things you didn’t dare to look at.
The beloved nation you had been taught to love and cherish was being destroyed. Taken apart by beings that had no say in the lives here. We were an open threat and now we were being taken care of like animals.
The twins that had potential. The potential from a bloodline that had centuries of experience in fighting battles. But you were just your mothers prodigy while your brother was everything Pierro wanted in a son.
It didn’t take time for you to be separated from your brother in the middle of battle. Losing a large amount of people. You had no reason to be running away from the chaos, not when you were the second line of defense to help Thrain.
You were the reason why your brother went to go find your mother. Despite the differences between daughter and mother, you worried more about your mother than Pierro. You were her main headache even on the days she didn’t see you. You wouldn’t be here without her and even on days where you know you couldn’t bear the sight of her—she always stayed waiting for you.
You ran through the torn down streets. Where buildings used to stand were now left to be lost within the flames of agony and death. Your tears were streaming down your dirty cheeks, trying to navigate through smoke and soot. Behind you was the battle. The very battle that has cost you everything.
You heard Thrain’s voice behind you but you continued down the broken path. Your boots were tripping over body parts and rubble.
“Mom!” You cry out, voices echoing as the sounds of people struggling to breathe. “Ulysses!”
You quickly kneel down, tearing away rock and metal trying to save people from the causality. The loss was hard to believe as your tears blinded you from the sight.
“Y/n,” a hoarse voice pulls you away from the scene. Your fingertips bloody with blood that wasn’t yours. Thrain spun you around. His hands cupping your face. “Look at me.”
“She’s in there. Ulysses went after her! I have to get them both, Thrain.” You pound your fists into his rattling armor. His hands grip your cheeks harder, trying to get you to snap out of the daze you were in.
He shook his head. It didn’t take you long to realize that he had a matching scar on his eye as you did. The blood was now dried and caked onto the wound like a caterpillar.
“Thrain!” You say louder, pulling away as you return back to digging and moving bodies around. You were careful not to disturb the cold bodies that lacked warmth and color.
The granite ring your mother always wore stuck out like a wilted flower. Except you were frozen in fear. Seeing Ulysses’ hand next to hers.
Thrain pulls you away before you could even kick the large piece of what used to be a temple off of them. “Let me go!”
Your boots dragged in the dirt as he held onto you. “Thrain!” You yelled, slamming your weight into his body, sending him backward.
“No!” He grunted, holding you in place as he felt you stiffen and shift in his hold. Your senses were finally coming together. “That’s not the memory you should have of them. Not the memory you need, Y/n. I promise you.”
The reality.
The reality of what happened.
“No. No. No.” Your body trembles as you repeat the word. Your voice gave out before you could utter your mothers name.
Death came in waves. A terrible wave that altered your own life with a curse of immortality and nightmares.
