Papa Bear

Because I am watching the Clone Wars series atm and because of my obsession with @ollovae3​ ‘s work and her clone art I’ve been designing my own clone trooper and this is the full armour painting I finished today for Captain Bear named because he’s as large as and as protective as a Garu-Bear. 

He is a massive softie. He’s large, he’s kind of intimidating at first glance (out of armour), but he’s a massive sweetheart and he fully embraces it and accepts it. This man’s armour is always like this, it is always covered in doodles and drawings from little kids because he lets them draw over him for fun or if they’re scared and then he just doesn’t get rid of it. It becomes his permanent armour. He is a big dad basically. Dad to his troops, dad to the little younglings he comes across, massive dad, who will tell you to go to bed and get some rest and will give you a hug when you need it or a shoulder to cry or draw on. 

I will be doing a painting/drawing of his unhelmeted design, which involves freckles and long hair because I'm weak for both. I just want to get his features right and make sure he looks the way I want especially as I adore @ollovae3​ ‘s designs for the clones and want to make sure that Temuera Morrison shines through as well!

If possible I want to do that painting before easter break ends and I go back to work because then I probably won’t have the time/energy to do it for a long while!

🐻 Paintbrushes of no specific brand, mostly cheap ones i’ve got off of amazon + Arteza miniature brushes (really good quality, small detail brushes)

Nights out with Bear, Delta, Sunny and Kal have become commonplace for you. It’s how you find yourself at the bar of your regular cantina, the White Lothcat, ordering your group a series of drinks. Some more alcoholic than others. It’s busy tonight, more so than usual. Every seat is filled, every space frequented. It’s a surprise your group managed to get a table at all, but then again, Bear managed to clear a room simply with his presence. Few people wanted to get into a fight with the giant of a man. You suspect his presence is the only reason you have a table at all. 

You’re jostled and moved by bumping shoulders as you wait for the bartender to make your drinks. Coruscant’s bars and cantinas were always filled with a diverse group of species, the common and the less so flowed through them like a stream. You could see other groups of clones too, the same familiar face, but with individual differences that made them strangers to you. 

A cough reminds you to turn back around, the Devaronian bartender is urging you to hurry up with an impatient look. You hastily pay for the round of drinks and grab the tray, trying to make it back to your table without spilling a drop or being knocked to the ground by someone. 

You return to the table with the group's drinks having successfully maneuvered yourself through the crowds without losing the drinks.  Passing spotchka to Delta, a Dantooine Ice-twist to Sunny, a Fuzzy Tauntaun to Kal and a simple soda to Bear, who as per usual, was not drinking in favour of looking after his men. He always designated himself as the sober member of the group to make sure everyone got back safe at the end of the night. 

You look for a seat at your table only to realise all the spaces are full. With a frown you look around the Cantina hoping to spot a chair you could borrow, but find none as the place was unusually busy. There was barely even a spot to stand in, you’re reminded of this fact as a twi’lek brushes past you, jostling you when his hip collides with your own. 

When you look back at your group, Bear is patting his thigh, gesturing for you to just sit there with a small smile and a come hither motion of his fingers. Dimples form at the corners of his mouth and his freckles dance with crinkles that appear around his eyes. You’re hesitant, knowing that you are not small or dainty, that you are in fact rather heavy, but his gesture is insistent and so you perch yourself carefully on the edge of his knee, mindful not to put your whole weight onto his leg. Not wishing to make him uncomfortable and instead sacrifice your own comfort as you awkwardly balance your weight, drink in hand. 

It is not comfortable, not because of Bear, but because you are balancing on the very edge of his knee, holding most of your weight in your own legs as to avoid sitting properly or heavily onto him. His thighs are thick and broad, but you perch, barely on him, not having a good seat for your wide hips. 

Bear’s hands splayed across your waist, fingers falling between the divots and folds of your side. You are ever so aware of the fact that he can feel every roll and bump in your side as he rests them there. His grip is sure and firm, however, as he pulls you back onto his leg properly, till you're sitting snug against him, hips pressed back into his own and back against his chest. He does not allow you to perch yourself awkwardly for long, ensuring your are sat securely on his thigh.

His breath is warm against your ear as he wraps one arm full around your front, pressing it into your soft stomach comfortably. “You’re not hurting me, you’re not heavy. I’ve got you, mesh’la.” 

There’s something so utterly exposing and yet comforting about the fact he knew, that without being told he recognised what you were doing and sought to reassure you and correct it. 

“Are...are you sure?” You ask, hesitant to hear the answer, but still needing to know that it was okay to lean heavily into him, to press backwards against him. 

His beard and his curls tickle your cheek as he presses his chin into your shoulder and whispers back at you, “Certain. You’re not going to hurt me, Mesh’la, get comfortable for me.” 

You have to force yourself to do it, but you make yourself relax into him, press your weight back against his chest and lean into him. You force yourself to stop thinking of how you distribute your weight as you sit there, but every joke and silly comment in your ear from Bear has you relaxing more and more, and has your thoughts quieting throughout the night. 

You grip the arms around your waist, tracing through the hair there, over the freckles and scars that litter his skin in an absent kind of way as you feel yourself become drowsier and drowsier the more comfortable you get. 

Bear is warm and comfortable. Thick thighs built to be sat on, broad shoulders to lean your head back against, a warm chest that pillows underneath your back. He smells like sandalwood and soap, clean and warm, his skin is soft beneath your hands and his breathing is calming, lulling you into a drowsy state that has you wanting to fall asleep right there. 

His fingers rub circles into your soft stomach as his arms crowd around you, keeping you close. Your companions just give you both a knowing look but choose, for once, not to make a teasing joke or comment. 

You decide, in that moment, that you could get used to this. You could definitely get used to this.

You’re certain you must have fallen asleep at some point because you wake drowsy and confused to Bear telling you he should get you back to your quarters and to bed. You don’t have the awareness to even get up, but that’s okay, Bear thinks. He doesn’t mind as he lifts you into his arms, your soft body pressed against him. 

You are not small, but neither is he. He’s strong, even for a clone and has little problem cushioning your head in between his shoulder and neck as he carries you back to base. You press into him, burrow closer in a way you never would have at the start of the night and it makes him smile, to know you are comfortable in his arms, that you trust him.

You fall asleep again on the journey to your quarters, shallow breathing and twitching eyelids as you drift off. He does his best to stay steady and stable through the journey, not wishing to jostle you until he has little choice. You don’t wake again that night.

When you wake the next morning you are tucked into your bed in your quarters, a glass of water on your nightstand and your shoes carefully placed by the door to your bedroom. There is a little note on durasheet written in a careful hand by the glass of water. You reach for it as you sit yourself up. 

It says two little words, ‘good morning’ followed by a smiley face drawn with little zabrak horns. You can’t help the smile that twists at the corners of your mouth. You could definitely get used to this.

Babywatch Maris! I’ve drawn him a as a kid before but this is a little younger. Seeing the fanwalker drawings inspired by @circlesmadeofglass‘s Babywatch made me smile, so I figured I’d draw him again, this time with his dad’s favorite mug full of tea and his stalwart ally Captain Bear.

Captain Bear Thirst Trap Painting #1

I cannot explain my love for this character of my own creation. Most of the pages in my new sketchbook are of Captain Bear...This is my third painting of him, I have another planned for tomorrow, I have one more idea i’m working on in my book as well. This man will not let me rest…

But anyway, here’s some thirsty Captain Bear cause he’s a beef cake and I love him and his stupid face. I’d usually be anxious about posting something like this butttt I’m a fully grown adult and I need to get over my fear of being judged by other people so!

🐻 A5 Watercolour Paper - Winsor and Newton Cold Pressed (I hate this paper with a burning passion, but someone else might like working with it! Too textured for my taste!)

Climbing Frame

This painting took 23 hours to complete in the end and despite a near disaster with a glass of iron bru I’m glad to say it’s complete and looking good. 

This is Captain Bear, Delta, Sunny and Kal plus some kiddos and a lothcat just hanging out and being awesome. The little pink Devaronian is my absolute favourite of the children, his design just makes me happy, there isn’t enough pink in star wars tbh. 

This painting has taken so long, but i’m really glad that it’s done and that I took the time to be ambitious and give it a go despite my worries and concerns.

Is It Worth It?

“Has it been worth it?” You’re lying across Bear’s broad chest, fingers tracing circles and patterns into his pectoral and across his softer stomach, tracing roads over him mindlessly. Your head lifts and falls with his every breath and there’s something so soothing about the warmth of him, the smell of his skin, the sound of his breaths and the beating underneath your ear. Combined with the surprisingly delicate fingers trailing through strands of your hair, massaging knots in your neck and shoulders, tiptoeing across your skin with gentle ease, it is enough to soothe you into speaking your deepest concerns. 

“Mmm?” He lifts himself slightly, just enough to look down on you with bewildered brown eyes. His nose scrunches, freckles dancing across brown skin and brows furrowing at your question wondering what you’re talking about. His curls are loose and long, that particularly stubborn curl falling across his forehead where it always finds its resting place. 

“Being with me...is it worth it? All those regulations and rules you’re breaking, all the sneaking out and around...is it worth it? Am...am I worth it?” There were at least 5 regulations you could think of, off the top of your head, that Bear broke every single time he chose to continue his relationship with you. From sneaking out of the barracks at night to having a romantic relationship at all. 

The Clone Troopers had many rules, many regulations to keep them in line, to keep them working at their best, their most efficient. Those rules did not factor in much for individuality or attachment. You were breaking your own rules too, a Grand Army of the Republic Doctor fraternising with a Clone Trooper captain? It was scandalous, the sort of thing that appeared in romance holos and bad serials. 

“Honey Bee, Mesh’la…” He sits up properly now, hauling you up his body with the sort of ease that comes from unnatural strength. You’re pulled into his lap, hips straddling his own as his large hands cup your cheeks easily, stroking across the apples of them with a gentleness that characterised so many of his actions. “I’m a good soldier, but I'm not a perfect one. I would rather break every rule there is and spend what little time I might have left with you, then spend every day denying how I feel and following the regs. I love you, cyare. You are worth it.” 

He presses his forehead to yours, nose bumping against yours in an affectionate gesture as he lets out a deep content sigh, “You make my life sunny and sweet, how could I ever regret that?” 

“I...I just, I worry that one day you’ll get in trouble, we’ll get in trouble, but you’ll...you’ll wish you never bothered with me, Big.” You twist your fingers in your lap together, eyes shifting away from his gaze, vulnerability filling you as you open up yourself to possible hurt. You had never voiced your worries, that he’d wish he’d been a straight laced soldier, that he’d wished he never met you or that he’d never started your relationship. You loved him, it was one of your biggest fears, being his greatest regret. 

He tutts at you, and shakes his head, before pressing a kiss to both of your cheeks, beard soft against your skin. Bear cups the back of your neck gently, thumb pressing into a knot there with gentle easing circles. “Am I worth it? You’re breaking as many regs as me. Am I worth it?”

“Of course!” There’s no hesitation, your voice comes out offended at the proposition, aghast at the thought that he wasn’t worth the rules you were breaking around fraternisation. You couldn’t imagine a world in which you weren’t with Bear, a world in which the large, sweet man wasn’t there to hold you at night. 

“Then don’t, for a second, doubt that I would break every rule to be here with you. I would break every rule for a life with you. I’m a good soldier, I'm a terrible clone.” It was implied that he was too much of an individual, that his choices weren’t part of the system of uniformity everyone expected of the clones. From the drawings he allowed every youngling he came across to draw on his armour, to the length of his hair. Everything he did was individually and uniquely him, he wasn’t a clone anymore. He was Bear. 

“I love you.” You press your hands to his shoulders, sliding over them to rest your arms around his neck and pull him close. You press soft kisses across his cheeks and the freckles that rest there, the scar that covers the left side of his face, over the bridge of his nose and the lids of his eyes. Reminding him that your love has never been in doubt, that it has never been your love you’d doubted so much as the system which dictated how he should be and how you should act. 

“I love you. If I ever make you doubt that, tell me.” He pulls back enough to stare in your eyes, serious, more serious than he ever is as he tells you this. There is a great part of him that worries that he will do something to make you doubt him, that you will suffer in silence. All he wants is for you to know, each day, every second, how much he loves you, how fundamental you are to his life, how seeing you after a tough battle makes everything better. You are the sunny spot in an otherwise dark and cloudy war, a reminder of his worth, his individuality, of the fact that he is not his brothers and they are not him. 

“You’ve never made me doubt that. Never.” You insist, carding fingers through the long curls of his hair at the base of his neck, tightening your legs around his hips to drag him closer as if that will make him believe you more. “I’m sorry I ever made you doubt that, Big.” You brush his temples with your finger tips, follow the lines of his brow, over the length of his nose and the bow of his lips. 

He presses a quick kiss to your fingertips where they rest against his cupid’s bow. “I’m not. I’m not sorry that you feel you can tell me your worries, and can talk to me like this. I want you to tell me these things, the nasty things, the hurtful things, the worries, the nagging thoughts. I want to know all of you. The good, the bad, the anxious, the silly. I want to know you.” His hands fall to the meat of your hips, a reassuring weight, a comforting presence that says ‘I'm here with you, I am comfortable with you’. 

“I want to know you too. You can come to me too, you know that? You don’t have to be the strong and brave one all the time, Bear...sometimes you can let your own worries out too.” 

There’s a silence as you stare into each other’s eyes, a comfortable sort of silence that comes from time and knowing someone well, knowing someone enough to feel entirely yourself around them. His fingers rub circles into your hips, in a rhythm only he seems to know as your own stroke across his cheeks in soothing motions. You allow the silence to fall, allow it to envelope the two of you as he presses his forehead against yours again and keeps it there, letting out a heavy breath. 

“I worry that I’ll never get to live a life with you, a proper life.” He begins with a shaky voice, one you have rarely heard, but that has you pressing your forehead tighter against his own, that has you nudging his nose comfortingly with your own, “That we’ll never have a little house somewhere, a plot of land. That i’ll never get to marry you, that i’ll never hold our children or wake in the night to little frowns telling me they’ve had a nightmare.” 

There are tears that fill his eyes the more he talks of dreams, wishes, things he hopes for but worries will not happen. Your own eyes fill in response, hearing about the life he wishes to live with you, that life he wishes to make with you. The life you worry now, that you too will never see. “I worry that I will wake one day, go on a mission and never come back, that no one will tell you and you will wonder and wonder, until it’s clear I'm gone. I...I worry that our future isn’t a future at all because this war will rob me of the chance.”

There is nothing you can say to that because it is valid and real. There is every possibility that he could be shot down in any battle, any mission, that no one will think to tell you because they don’t know, because you are not supposed to be his and he isn’t supposed to be yours. You cannot say anything, so you don’t. 

Instead you roll over and pull him down with you as you lie back into the covers, Bear pulled atop you despite his large size. You run your fingers through his hair and let the tears fall onto your chest, allow him to grieve for a future he might never have, you might never have. Allow the weight of him to press you into the mattress as you try to comfort him and yourself with gentle hands and soft noises.

You tangle your limbs together and hold him close as he cries himself into sleep, hold him tighter even as he falls into a slumber, even as you lie awake thinking of a future you so desperately want that is so utterly worth the risks you take breaking regulations every day.
