The now complete rough charts for Contagious!!

I’m working on a couple animations for the Raggedy characters so this will deff make things a bit easier instead of constantly looking back at the movie while animating

Did you know his shirt switches from a button up to a sweater based on who’s animating him?

The Dolls are pretty simple so I won’t need a turnaround to do for them I think, other than Babette! She’ll most likely be next because of her wonderfully unique but hard to draw design 🩷🩷🌼🌼

is it weird to say that i despise captain contagious

I dunno, even as gross as his actions are, I can’t bring myself to hate Captain Contagious. He’s funny, I like his design, I like his voice, I like his relationship with Queasy, and I even find the concept of a snow globe inhabitant in a “living toy” story where they’re in this tragic situation of being enclosed and sequestered away and being able to see all the “free” toys in the distance really fascinating and heartbreaking.

I sort of want to cut him some slack by leaning into the fact that he’s been alone in a snowstorm for 30 years (I’m not making that up, one of his first lines is him offhandedly saying it’s been 30 years) with his only company being a bunch of sailors and a bird, so he’s not well-socialized and not used to interfacing with women.

Any motive speculation aside, I genuinely don’t think he would ever have actually hurt Babette, he was just very, very insensitive to her desires (which in my reading of his character is specifically because he’s never been attracted to someone before and never met anyone who wasn’t part of his crew and under his authority). Unlike the Greedy or the Looneys, I don’t think he’s a truly malicious or utterly self-centered entity.

I like to think Babette’s forgiveness of him at the end and offer to have him visit her on Sunday is less a date and more sort of the first step in an attempt to teach him manners and rehabilitate/integrate him and his crew into playroom society. Whether that would ultimately lead to a romantic relationship is something you can decide for yourself.

Annette is clearly far superior, why anyone would ever think that Babette getting with the Captain was a good idea is beyond me.
