Oki so. I've gotten back into Peter Pan, and I decided to share my own version of Captain Hook's backstory.
I may make my own timeline based on the Disney movies and the Jake and the Neverland Pirates series

James was the first lost boy. And before Peter Pan took him in as his sidekick, he was a very lonely kid who grew up in an orphanage. He never knew his parents, and the orphanage had basically been his home his whole life. But the other kids hated him because he was different and was a bookworm with a fascination of theater and had a skill for thinking outside the box. He wanted to be a part of the team and play sports and games with the other kids, but they always excluded him for no reason other than he was different, and he was always discouraged for being creative and thinking outside the box. He had always wanted to run away and start a new life, but being small and young, he couldn't take care of himself.
But when he turned 8 years old, Peter Pan appeared at his bedroom window. He had been watching him and felt sorry for how lonely he was, and this was before he met tinkerbell, so being lonely himself, he offered to take him to Neverland, where he'd never grow up and be free from all of reality's struggles. Young James obliged, and soon, he became Peter pan's sidekick.
They did everything together. There wasn't a day they weren't together going on treasure hunts and protecting Neverland from pirates. And over time, Peter brought new lost boys to Neverland, and the gang grew.
But over time, Peter began to change. His ego grew, he grew more and more reckless and arrogant, and stopped listening to anyone's ideas but his own. James may have been stuck in the body of an eight year old, but he still knew what those people were like and knew them all too well.
So one day, he confronted Peter Pan about his recent behavior and tried to give him constructive criticism that the way he's been acting wasn't right, but a huge argument broke out between them and James stormed off, leaving the lost boys. While reflecting on what had happened, a young pirate from the crew that came to Neverland most frequently approached young James. James, at first, was ready to fight and defend himself, but the pirate assured him that he meant no harm and wanted to help him. His name was Bosun Smee, and he had overheard the argument between James and Peter and wanted to offer him a position on the jolly Rodger. Their captain had fallen deathly ill, and they needed extra hands anyway, but Smee only wanted to help the young boy.
James hesitated, but he quickly thought it over and soon agreed to leave Neverland with smee and his crew.
Many years went by, serving as the cabin boy. He had somehow found a way into the whole crew's hearts, especially the sickly captain. The captain soon decreed to the crew that when he eventually succumbs to his illness, James would take over as the new captain when he was old enough.
Many more years went by, and James soon grew into a young adult. The captain's health had somehow improved slightly but still had a slim chance of survival. At the age of 21, James thought about his old friend, Peter Pan, and wondered how he was doing, so he asked the captain if they could return to Neverland to visit and check up on things, and the captain agreed.
Little did James know that Peter Pan regretted the things he said and realized he was the one in the wrong, so he had gone to find James to apologize and make things right, but the time he finally found James, it had been too late and the pirates had already taken him away. From then on, Peter sought to avenge his friend from failing to save him and not even getting the chance to apologize. And with the many years away from Neverland passing, James had grown up so much that he was unrecognizable to Peter. So Peter didn't realize that this young pirate standing before him was really his long-lost friend and attacked without hesitation. James defended himself and tried to explain, but Peter refused to listen, and unintentionally, James landed a blow with his sword to Peter's side, and in retaliation, Peter swung his dagger and sliced James's left hand clean off, causing it to fall into the mouth of a hungry crocodile that had previously swallowed an alarm clock, waiting below.
The two both retreated, because the crocodile liked the taste of James's flesh so much that it wanted more, and lunged at James, but the captain, watching the conflict unfold, ran with all the strength he had left to jump in the way of the hungry crocodile so Mr. Smee could pull James out of the way to safety. Sadly, the captain did not survive. He had given his life to save the boy he took in and saw as a son.
James had his wounds tended to and his bloody stump fitted with a silver hook to replace his missing hand, and the crew decreed James as their new captain. But James never forgot what Peter had done because the ticking crocodile still pursued him for years on end for more of him, and he learned that Peter pan was painting him as the villain to the other lost boys and treated what happened like the greatest victory of his life, then continue to antagonize him and his crew to make himself look more like a hero to the later lost boys to come, giving him the nickname, Captain Hook.
So young James vowed that he would one day get revenge against the person he thought was his friend who turned out to be a monster and rescue the young boys who's heads he filled with lies, and gladly took the new name, Captain James Hook
