Back story: I was so nervous in heels with a thick carpet to balance. My ao dai was cut so long that they made an exception for me to wear heels. Otherwise, it is not an option.
Trying to balance made me forget my words a couple of times! I will do better the next time round…I hope.
A special weekend with some wonderful people. I got a special treat to row a boat to see a field of yellow lotus flowers. Thank you to Bac Doan and his wife as well as Bac Thuan, his wife and his daughter (hiding in the background). I also got to meet Captain Pham for the 3rd time with his lovely wife, one of his son, daughter-in-law, and their two gifted children. I feel so blessed.
At my Captain's home in Virginia. I listened to so many stories of people imprisoned up to 2 decades for wanting to live in a free country. We are blessed to have been saved by Captain Pham Ngoc Luy. Each time, I learn a different facet of this story. Each person has a story to add.
95 years strong
In Virginia to celebrate our ship's captain's 95th birthday. Looking forward to meeting more survivors of the Truong Xuan.
There were 2 deaths aboard the Truong Xuan and 2 births - both baby girls. 1 was named after Clara - the ship that saved everyone. The other baby was born on the Truong Xuan named "Chieu-Anh" or Shining Light. Clara was listed as one day younger than me. I was incorrectly recorded as a boy on the refugee list in Hong Kong.
Overall, it was an incredible rescue at sea with the bravery of 2 captains. Captain Pham of the TX and Captain Olsen. The largest recorded escape by sea.
