Claire, I hate you. I just want you to know that. I HATE YOUUUU.
Ahem.
Anyway. 😌 I've only known you a short time, but I know through our mutual friend just what a good and loyal friend YOU are. It makes me so glad to know that she has someone like you in her corner. And thank you for having such a fun sense of humor as well. 😌💛
You absolutely can! I don’t think I have an ask game up right now, so I hope you don’t mind if I just talk a little bit.
So, Montgomery and Lorelei are characters from a D&D game that I’ve been a part of for about four years now that was based on the premise of there being a “school” of sorts for people who wanted to become adventurers in the world. Montgomery and Lorelei met there, where they were both assigned to the same team along with the other player characters.
Montgomery (who actually has like 9 names because my deal with the GM was that I could only play a gunslinger if I had a name equally or more ridiculous than Percy from CR) is the human son of a noble family from a city state ruled by a meritocracy of mages. However, Montgomery has no magical ability, and is therefore essentially “useless” as an heir. He chose to pursue adventuring as a way to prove his strength without magic to the world, and he’s a fairly talented engineer and diplomat.
Lorelei is an elf from a place in our world called the Dragonlands, where she and her brother Raynor were raised in isolation by their parents, who had retreated into the dangerous north to hide from Lorelei’s grandmother, a powerful woman who opposed the marriage. When Lorelei was young (for an elf), her parents and brother were slaughtered by a white dragon, leaving Lorelei alone for 70 years except for the stories and songs her parents taught her. She made her way south, to the school, when she came of age, hoping to find a purpose in life.
The two of them first began to bond when, during their shift guarding the school grounds during a tournament, Lorelei was approached and stabbed by a man demanding to know why she had “his mother’s face.” Montgomery found Lorelei shortly after as she was bleeding out and succumbing to the knife’s poison. He managed to get Lorelei to the school’s resident cleric, where she swore him to secrecy regarding the incident since Lorelei was certain that the man who stabbed her was her brother, long thought dead.
Weeks later, Lorelei came to Montgomery and admitted that she had tracked her brother down again despite the stabbing incident, and that he had told her where to find him. She told Montgomery that she wanted to go to him, and Montgomery, desperate to keep their already fracturing party from falling apart, asked her to stay on the condition that he would help her. While the promise made at the time carried much more weight for Lorelei than Montgomery, it was the start of a pattern in which when either Montgomery or Lorelei needed help, they were each other’s first choice.
Over the course of the next several months and other incidents such as Lorelei defending Montgomery’s worldviews to the other party members, Montgomery stopping Lorelei’s brother from gaslighting her into leaving them, and the two of them just generally being willing to be emotionally vulnerable with each other, they each individually started falling in love. However, their situation is deeply complicated and potentially tragic for several reasons, not the least of which is the elf/human lifespan difference.
I’m happy to babble on about more of the details if you like, but I think this should give you a better idea of basically who they are.
She couldn’t, even if you held a gun to her head, pinpoint The Moment her feelings for Kurt shifted from friendly (platonic) affection for the guy who kicked her ass a gazillion times taught her how to fight and and just... has always been there for her and Constantin to wanting to drag him behind a tree and kiss him until they both can’t breathe and/or see stars. It just happened.
They’re that same vibe friends to lovers Tragen and Jaesa have, only they had longer as friends and don’t have the five years’ forced separation, so when they have their oh moment(s), they actually do something about it pretty much immediately. :3
