Honestly one of the things that bothers me most about the writing of Voltron is I feel like the bonds with the lions would be fascinating to explore more. I mean, in some places we even see glimpses that Blue and Red have their own personalities, but other times they’re just machines—not to mention the other lions. Plus, early on it seemed so important for the paladins to bond not just with each other, but their lions—but then there’s the big pilot shift, easy as anything, and even the stubborn and willful Red just accepts it, and doesn’t even treat her two pilots any differently, as though nothing happened.
As much as I love the characters—and although we saw good growth I do have plenty I could complain about how so many characters get shafted—I think the whole “giant magic robot lions” thing is definitely the COOLEST part of the concept of Voltron, and it just does not get the chance to show off how cool it is
